Chapter 49 - Ever Beautiful

 Thane

I was in my office waiting for my secretary to come and alert me upon peace's arrival. I stayed and I flipped through pages, studying the contract in details before the meeting.

'knock' knock'. I got up in excitement, and I sat down and adjusted my cufflink.

" Come in"

I looked up in excitement, I was expecting my secretary to come in with Peace so that we could head down to the meeting venue. Maybe even have the opportunity to talk to her.

" Hello Mr Thane" Grace walked in a half hazardly manner with her high heels, like she was trying to balance on them as she approached me. I cleared my throat and continued reading the contract.

" I thought I told you not to come to my work place grace."

She hurriedly ambled to my chair then she pout her lips and widen her eyes like a child. " I missed you so much, cant a sister see her elder brother?"

" I really hope that is the only intention you have of coming here."

" I would just sit over there and watch you work" she pointed to a far away visitors chair. My nose was suffocated from her excessive scents of perfumes. It was good that she picked a far away position. One where I wouldn't be able to see her.

" Sir" my secretary barged into my office and looked me in the eyes, with a look of understaning. It was peace.

" Should I ?"

" Of course!" I began placing my pens in a horizontal position and I stacked up my files In order quickly then I took a seat. I saw grace giving me a disgusted look. I looked at her and I looked at the door.

" I know, you have to meet someone important, I will leave." She got up quickly and I saw the door open. She crashed on peace and slapped my forehead with my palm. I got up.

" I am so sorry si…" grace grew silent went when she saw Peace's face.

" You! you what are you doing" I rushed in just in time to hold Grace's mouth. I heaved a sigh of relief and Peace had a confused oblivious face on, like she couldn't remember grace. I wonder if she really couldn't.

Grace stood there, I looked down at her and she wasn't struggling, I could feel her lips curve upwards while I held her mouth. I quickly dropped my hands and took a step away from her.

" I will see you later" she smiled at me and blew me a kiss; it was as if she wanted Peace to hear her high pitched voice and her loudened blowkiss. She looked at peace and her eyes went up and down and she turned back and she strutted out of my office.

I turned back and I heard my secretary close the door behind me. she rested on the chair and I walked to my seat so I could see her face.

The light from my window shined on peace. She looked like an angel, Her nose was pointed and round, she could not be more and her eyes dropped and stared at the pendulum on my desk that were decorated with a bunch of her favourite flowers. I knew she would take notice of them. Her hand s were folded and her miniature but slender figure was still the same from five years ago. She didn't seem like someone that would have birthed three children. She still looked as beautiful as when we first met under the rain years ago. Her eyes were cold and her face was a poker one. The peace from years ago would have smiled while staring at the flowers but her face was blank. She wanted me to say something first but I couldn't afford to spoil this moment, I didn't want her to run away from me. with me like this forever, as the breeze from the trees entered my office and blew her hair slightly. My hands scratched to help her get rid of the strand that had dared to interrupt her sight.

" Could you not look at me?"She said as her eye lids lifted up. With her eye brows folded, she stared at me like a cup of spoilt curded milk. One she wished to get out of her sight immediately.

" Oh sorry about that ma'am. Here is your copy of the contract we signed a week ago." She took it from me and threw cursory glances at it.

" So I need to come here three times a week to have a meeting with four representatives of my company and I." her glance at me was sharp, I thought I was an expert in eye contacts while having business meetings, but with peace I could feel my palms get sweaty. I rubbed them off with my trouser.

" Yes, exactly what is written there. You did read it before signing right?"

" I did" she threw off eye contact and stared at the plants again, I did but… her gaze trailed off to the plants. A butterfly had come in through the window and had decided to be a third party. And peace was still as absent minded as ever, I had a slight smirk on me when I observed her movements and behavior to certain things, I realized that she was just trying to hide herself away from me.

" I am sorry Mr Thane, I read it, I was comfortable with the whole thing. Until I had found out that It was you." I looked into her eyes in an expectant look. Does she want to discuss outside work?

" I am comfortable with it, my representatives would be recylcled, they are the labourers of my company, and my time spent here is strictly two hours as implied by the contract." She got up.

" Right, it is almost time for the meeting to begin, I want to introduce you to my entire staff. Then tomorrow we get straight to serious business."

" she nodded her head in a tired agreement, it felt like I was kryptonite and my presence had sucked up on all her energy.

I stretched forth my hand. " Lets work together and grow together."

" Absolutely sir" she placed her hands in a shake and I held it there, I did not want to let go. Both of our eyes, clicked and I swallowed my saliva, maybe to ease tension like a glass of water.
