Grace
I could not believe it. That shitty peace had the guts to show up again. What did she not understand from the threat of five years ago. I kicked the dustbin in front of me and kicked the bucket of water that the cleaner had been using to mop the floor.
" Hey, I was cleaning that1" the cleaner shouted at me. she didn't know, if she knew, she would help me bring more buckets of water that I could vent out my anger too. I could not imagine that she would come back after the threats I sent to her about releasing those pictures of her and Luther. Was she dumb, I watched the bubbly water spill over the neatly cleaned floor.
My life was like that floor. Clean and perfect. I was getting along with Thane. I knew that he was still getting over his wretched wife but I believed that as long as I kept on trying. He would look my way. He would see me in my apron and propose to me. But now, like the dirty black fluid, peace came and my romance life slippery and wet.
I could see the excitement in his eyes, the way he stared at her body. He never stared at me that way. Even when I starked half naked, he refused to see me as a woman. But Peace in her all dressed up suits was attractive to him. I was starting to think that Peace had put up a spell on him. she was definelty a witch and so was the woman that was screaming at me right now for pouring the water.
" Why would you cause me distress like these, it would take me an hour of cleaning this again. My back aches, I am old enough to be your mother. Couldn't you have shown me mercy by simply walking away." Did she just tell me to walk away? How dare this old woman. First it was peace and now it is she?
"paaaaaaaaaaa!!" I slapt her on the face quite hard and she went flying to the floor with her face on the wet floor. A voice in me wondered if I had hit her dead, but I saw wiggle like a worm out of the shallow pond of water in the hall way.
" I am the Boss's cousin and you are a nobody. My cousin could buy 2000 of your kind without it affecting his bank account t. what ??!?! you, you a mother? My mother is nothing like you, she is an elite of the society and she has what they call a real job. You are a worker and you saw I was in a bad mood. If you really knew what you were doing you will…."
I was interrupted and I felt a reptile crawl down my spine. An invisible one, I felt it either way.
" Grace! I could not believe you would do such." Thane rushed to the grandma with speed, he probably hadn't see the water. I panicked, what if something was going to happen to him.
" Slump! He fell down on his but cheeks and moaned in pain, he looked at the woman and he crawled to where she was. I could see Peace folding her arms and relaxing on the wall. Looking unbothered; I smirked, what does Thane expect from this adulterer. She wasn't even compassionate, I wasn't going to take this moment for naught. I went to thane, knelt down in the water and I held his arm.
He immediately brushed my touch off and he stood up with the woman.
" I am so sorry ma'am for causing you shame, I apologize on the behalf of my cousin. She has a serious mental condition and wasn't thinking properly. Please forgive me." He bowed down, enough to touch his knees. what was wrong with him?
" oh no, I am an old woman as she said, I should not interfere."
" No madam, no you are very valuable to the company. I will handle my family issues at home."
" Two hours going Mr Thane." I heard peace from the background. I couldn't help but feel like a person with a real mental disorder. Thane dragged me by the wrist and he handed me over to a security man.
Peace
I walked through my garden. I had just come back from the meeting with Thane. It was stressful and bothersome. I went into my ornamental section and I looked at the flowers that were superfluous . I remembered when he got down on his knees to help the woman. I could feel a smile crack on my face.
" We don't see that everyday, what is making peace smile."
" Oh hey Luther, I didn't hear you come in." I took the hose, and I started watering the plants. I did not bother looking him in the eye. The goal was to keep my distsnce from him as much as I could.
He walked up to me and sat on a bench. " How was the meeting?"
" Don't you have work?" I turned and I watered the plants that were at my back. The bench allowed him to glance at me.
" Peace, remember when we were in middle school, and you were playing hide and seek with your peers and you found me reading on a bench. You had told me to be quiet about it. so I would not disclose your hide out."
" I begged you to escort me home, because it had already gotten late. Because they could not find me."
" That was when we became friends, looking back it seems like it was just yesterday." I looked at him and I looked at my hose. I dropped the hose back on its stand and walked towards him and sat on the bench.
" Thank you for being with me through thick and thin Luther." I looked up to him and I could see his enlarged eyes through his glasses. He truly had been with me all through and he was still willing to take up my children as his own. I did not want to burden him; I don't know when he would start to see that me avoiding him was for his own benefit.
" Peace, when I talked about starting up a life with you from the scratch, I meant it. I am not going to force you and I am going to wait for you as long as I can. You are my heartbeat."
" I met Thane today."
