Chapter 40 - Ch. 040 - Reporting In [1]

Flower's POV

As much as I wanted to stay in the house to hang out with my parents and get to know more of my little brother, unfortunately, the army doesn't treat you nicely. I arrived in my unit few hours later after I left our house. As usual, the entire base was busy preparing for the upcoming battle.

I reached to the tent of my leaderships and inside, my platoon leader and platoon sergeant where waiting for my arrival. Before entering the tent, I braced myself to the upcoming curses and shouts from the two.

"There you are, Staff Sergeant Luminosity!" My platoon leader, 1st Lieutenant Hio called my name and there was rage behind her tone. "How dare you ran off like that, especially the day of your reporting! The high rankings were getting impatient and are mad at your sudden absent!"

"Ma'am is right, Staff Sergeant Luminosity." My platoon sergeant, Sergeant First Class Drake, said. He was reading a paper filled with recent reports until I entered the tent. "We know you are a Luminosity, but that doesn't mean that you can just ran off like that. Those old hags were fuming after you left."

Thus began the scolding from the two. Although, SFC Drake didn't say anything that much, 1LT Hio was the one freaking out the most. As much as I want to slap her right now, I don't want to risk my career because of my feelings.

After getting scolded for a long time and when she has calmed down, I proceeded to finally talk.

"I already told you, ma'am. I'm willing to risk everything I have just to be with my loved ones. I'm ready to burn the entire zolgar just to save my little brother and my butler." I said to her. She was about to say something when SFC Drake stopped her.

"Enough. Now that SSG Luminosity is here, let us give our reports to the officers. They are getting impatient." He stood up and left the tent. We both followed him from behind.

As we were walking down the camp to head at the war tent, Guardians were running around the camp while holding a heavy box filled with equipment and weapons that were needed for the upcoming battle. When I first got here in the base, it was already busy. However, this was my first time seeing all Guardians being swamped and actually doing their job.

I'm not saying that they are all lazy. I mean, I've met a few Guardians that were lazy and would rather let the privates do their own work. But this time, ranks didn't matter. Everyone was working to the bones.

We reached the war room and of course, before coming in, I braced myself again. However, to my surprise, they were rather calm. I was expecting shouts and curses thrown at me as soon as they see me, but it was the opposite.

Until I scanned the room and saw the reason why they were being polite.

Standing in the corner of the room was Master Sorania, my father's mentor and teacher. Despite being retired for many years now, she chose to volunteer and fight alongside the army. Except that she will not be under any regulations and she will work alone.

"Did you have a nice little reunion, my little rose?" She asked with an angelic tone, making me relax.

"I did, Master Sorania." I gave her a bow as a sign of respect.

"Welcome back, Staff Sergeant Luminosity." My commander said. Despite his best act of trying to sound calm, he was still angry at my disobedience.

"Thank you, sir." I said and I gave my salute to him which he saluted back. "Apologies for leaving suddenly. I can't help but to worry for my loved ones." I added.

The commander wanted to say something, to preach to me about putting service first, but Master Sorania's glare bore through his skull, stopping himself in time before his head goes rolling.

"Now then. Let's waste no time. Give us a brief of your mission, SSG Luminosity."
