Southern Galaxy.
"Honey, we finally found the third Super Dragon Ball!" Bulma exclaimed, her eyes fixed on the orange-glowing planet visible through the viewing window of their spaceship.
After leaving the Western Galaxy and spending half a year traversing the cosmos, they had finally arrived at the coordinates of the third Super Dragon Ball planet-sized artifacts scattered across universes.
During these six months, the journey had been mostly uneventful. Only a couple of space pirate gangs had attacked them, but Bulma, having equipped the ship with upgraded Capsule Corp tech and powerful weapon systems, had fended them off with ease never once needing Li Xu to intervene.
"Good. Once we retrieve this one, we'll head to Universe 6 to look for the others," Li Xu said with a nod.
"Om…"
At that moment, Li Xu's expression shifted. He had once again felt the odd sensation of being observed.
"There it is again," he muttered to himself.
This was not the first time. Ever since he discovered the first Super Dragon Ball in Universe 7, the feeling had appeared multiple times. At first, he dismissed it as imagination. But after repeated occurrences, he was certain: someone was watching him someone powerful.
Universe 7, Destruction Realm.
"He noticed again!" Whis chuckled, entirely unfazed by being detected. His angelic staff hovered gently beside him as he stood on Beerus' planet.
Despite being discovered time and again, Whis knew there was no way Li Xu could trace the observation back to him or even identify who he was. He observed freely, confident in his abilities.
"He's already gathered the three Super Dragon Balls from Universe 7," Whis mused aloud. "I'm curious to see how he'll handle the search in Universe 6."
Indeed, as Li Xu moved across the galaxy, Whis had watched him with increasing interest. His strength, decisions, and mysterious origins all fascinated the angel. Yet every time he peeked, Li Xu somehow sensed it, making Whis even more intrigued.
Back on the spaceship, Li Xu's eyes gleamed with an idea.
"Bulma, I'm making you a full-course feast tonight!" he announced suddenly, his tone exaggerated but playful.
"Really?" Bulma lit up. It wasn't often that Li Xu cooked, but when he did, the results were unforgettable.
"Yup. I'll start now," Li Xu replied, already stepping into the ship's kitchen, a rare smile on his face.
A few hours later, the dining table was laden with dish after dish: pan-roasted chicken, mandarin fish with roasted petals, paper-wrapped chicken, Tai'an triple tofu, sesame fish balls, shredded apple salad, boiled yellow croaker, braised fish lips, dragon-phoenix legs, Four Joy duck, Mount Tai red-scaled fish, crispy spring flower pork, tofu croquettes, pepper sea cucumber soup, double-grilled meat, and silver lung milk broth, among others.
These dishes weren't native to the Dragon Ball world Li Xu had brought culinary knowledge from another timeline or universe. Each dish carried unique flavors and techniques unknown to any chef on Earth, Namek, or even other planets.
Bulma stared at the spread, practically drooling. "Honey, why so much food today?"
Usually, Li Xu only prepared enough for the two of them. Today, however, it looked like a banquet.
"We're expecting a… special guest," he replied cryptically, eyes flicking toward the viewing window of the spaceship.
Suddenly, a blinding light engulfed the room. It was so intense, Bulma had to shield her eyes. When the light faded, a tall, effeminate figure stood gracefully inside the ship: pale-skinned, blue-haired, clad in a flowing red and black angel's robe, staff in hand it was Whis, Angel attendant to Beerus the Destroyer.
"Mmm! Smells divine!" Whis beamed, already floating over to the table and sampling the dishes without waiting for an invitation.
Li Xu grinned. His plan had worked perfectly.
After suspecting that someone powerful was secretly watching him, he ran through a list of candidates who had both the ability and motivation. After ruling out the Gods of Destruction and the Supreme Kais who had no reason to meddle he'd settled on one possibility: Whis.
And so, knowing Whis' notorious love for gourmet food, Li Xu crafted a deliberate trap one not of force, but flavor.
Just as he predicted, the smell of divine cooking had been too much for Whis to resist.
Originally, with Li Xu's current power level, it should have been impossible for him to detect Whis's presence. However, Whis, lured by the enticing aroma of the food, had unconsciously relaxed his divine energy concealment, causing a faint ripple in space that allowed Li Xu to catch a subtle trace of his arrival.
"Who are you? And how can you just barge in and eat someone else's food?" Bulma said sharply, clearly irritated. This feast had been specially prepared for her by Li Xu a rare treat and she barely got to enjoy any of it.
"Oh, pardon me! My name is Whis. These dishes are truly exceptional," Whis replied with a carefree chuckle, continuing to savor the food without even lifting his gaze.
"If Mr. Whis likes it that much, then please, eat your fill," Li Xu said with a smile, then turned to Bulma. "I'll make another full meal for you tomorrow, Bulma."
"Hmph!" Bulma snorted, still sulking, arms crossed and cheeks puffed slightly in dissatisfaction.
After half an hour, the once lavish table had been completely cleared.
"So it's not just Saiyans who can eat like monsters even Angels have massive appetites," Li Xu thought to himself, amazed. He had prepared more than a dozen complex dishes, and yet nothing remained.
"That was absolutely delicious. I've never tasted such exquisite flavors," Whis said, eyes twinkling with genuine satisfaction.
"Mr. Whis, you're the one who's been secretly observing me, aren't you?" Li Xu said directly, his tone calm but firm.
"Oh hoho, you caught me," Whis chuckled again, clearly unfazed, even when confronted face-to-face.
"Tch! Not only did you spy on us, you even ate all the food meant for me!" Bulma said furiously, hands on her hips as she glared daggers at the angelic intruder.
"I didn't mean to observe you specifically. But once you started collecting the Super Dragon Balls, I couldn't help but take notice," Whis replied casually, as if peeking into people's business across galaxies was a harmless habit.
"Since you've enjoyed the food I made," Li Xu said smoothly, "perhaps you could return the favor by helping us a little?"
"Oh hoh… Universe 6 isn't exactly a tourist destination. You can't just waltz in, and I'm not really supposed to assist with such things," Whis said, his eyes rolling slightly as if trying to avoid making a commitment.
Li Xu, knowing full well that Whis wasn't being entirely truthful, pressed further. "How about another meal just like this one, in exchange for your help?"
Whis hesitated, clearly tempted. Food was his greatest weakness, and Li Xu's cooking was unlike anything in Universe 7.
"Three meals. No repeats," Whis bargained, raising three fingers.
"Deal!" Li Xu agreed without pause.
To him, preparing a few meals was a small price to pay especially if it meant gaining access to Universe 6. He usually didn't bother cooking because of training priorities, but when needed, it wasn't an issue.
Seeing how quickly Li Xu agreed, Whis internally regretted not asking for more. Perhaps he should've raised five fingers instead.
"When do you want to leave?" Whis asked, now committed. As an Angel, his word was absolute once given.
"Before we go, Mr. Whis, could I ask you to train me for a short while?" Li Xu asked. He wasn't about to waste the rare chance of standing before the most powerful trainer in Universe 7.
Whis, the Angel attendant to Beerus the Destroyer, was the very being who had trained Goku and Vegeta into mastering divine forms like Super Saiyan God and Ultra Instinct. There was no better mentor in the universe.
"It seems you know more about me than you should," Whis said, eyes narrowing slightly, interest piqued. Li Xu's actions and insight hinted at knowledge far beyond this timeline.
"I know a little," Li Xu said with a slight smile, avoiding giving away too much.
Whis didn't press the issue. His existence and title weren't exactly classified secrets.
"I am merely Lord Beerus's humble attendant. If he learns I'm taking mortals to the World of Destruction, he won't be pleased," Whis warned lightly, though there was no real menace in his tone.
"Then… how about two more meals?" Li Xu added, noting that Whis hadn't outright declined meaning there was room to negotiate.
"No."
"Five," Li Xu said, immediately raising the offer.
"Deal!" Whis beamed, this time making sure he didn't leave any fingers out.
"Bulma, get ready. We're going to the realm of the Gods of Destruction," Li Xu said, clearly pleased with the outcome.
"Alright." Bulma nodded. She didn't know exactly what Li Xu planned, but trusted that anything he asked of her was worth following through.
