c59 – Cultivation in the Gods of Destruction World
After safely securing the two planets that housed the third and fourth Super Dragon Balls, Li Xu and Bulma made final preparations to travel to the Gods of Destruction world alongside Whis.
"You'll need to hold steady. If you fall mid-transit, it would be quite the mess," Whis said with a chuckle, clearly amused.
Standing behind Whis, Li Xu placed his right hand on Whis' shoulder. Bulma, slightly nervous, clung tightly to Li Xu's waist.
With a light tap of his scepter against the ground, Whis activated his technique. A shimmering, prismatic aura enveloped the trio, and they shot off like a beam of divine light through the fabric of space, heading toward the realm of the Gods.
"This is truly the pinnacle of speed," Li Xu thought in amazement.
Whis's travel method, unique to Angels, bypassed normal space-time constraints, making it faster than even Instant Transmission in sheer velocity. Though Instant Transmission was instantaneous over any distance, it required a ki signature to lock onto, whereas Whis could simply move between realms directly no anchor needed.
In less than thirty minutes, they arrived in the Gods of Destruction world, a realm separated from standard cosmic space.
"So this is the world of a God of Destruction?" Li Xu surveyed his surroundings. The realm seemed like a pocket dimension, similar to a two-dimensional plane in its simplicity, but layered with powerful spatial boundaries. Li Xu attempted to sense the outer realm but found Instant Transmission unusable. The dimensional barriers were too dense likely reinforced by Angelic magic.
"Lord Beerus is currently asleep. If you accidentally disturb him and he wakes in a foul mood… well, I won't be responsible for what happens next," Whis said lightly, but there was a clear warning behind the smile.
"I understand," Li Xu nodded. He knew Beerus's temperament—lethargic but extremely volatile. However, from what he recalled of Beerus's behavior in other timelines, the God of Destruction wasn't impossible to get along with if approached respectfully.
Li Xu then took out a universal capsule and tossed it to the ground. With a burst of steam and a flash of light, it transformed into a fully equipped house complete with gravity room, training equipment, and living quarters. He and Bulma would stay here during their time in the realm.
"Mr. Whis, could we begin my training now?" Li Xu asked, eager to advance under the strongest teacher in Universe 7.
"Certainly," Whis replied with a nod. His demeanor shifted from playful to serious the Angel's attitude toward training was always precise.
"Then let's get started," Li Xu said.
"I want to see your current full strength first," Whis instructed. Although he could gauge a person's ki at a glance, to properly tailor training, he needed to see them fight.
"In that case, I won't hold back," Li Xu said with confidence. He knew Whis's power was beyond comprehension, but he had his own pride as a warrior.
Whoosh!
With a sharp burst of golden light and a crackle of electricity, Li Xu transformed into a Super Saiyan. The transition was smooth and stable—his aura flared like wildfire, but his expression remained calm.
His transformation wasn't the unstable form from Frieza's saga. Over his months of training, he had mastered the Full Power Super Saiyan state—a perfected version that maintained maximum strength without energy drain.
In Dragon Ball Super, this was the same state Goku and Gohan trained to sustain during the Cell Games. Unlike the ascended or ultra Super Saiyan forms that slowed the user down, Full Power Super Saiyan balanced strength and speed without degrading the user's stamina.
"Interesting. A full transformation your power multiplies several dozen times instantly. But all that power remains outward unfocused," Whis observed, his sharp gaze immediately identifying the core flaw of the form.
Fwoosh!
Li Xu lunged at Whis, unleashing a flurry of precise, high-speed punches. Each blow carried explosive force, enough to shatter a mountain, but Whis didn't even flinch.
With one hand holding his scepter and the other tucked behind his back, Whis casually sidestepped each attack, dancing between punches with an amused grin. His movements were effortless more like gliding than dodging, a testament to Ultra Instinct in its natural state.
Li Xu increased the tempo, launching punches, spinning kicks, and feints, but no matter how fast or unpredictable he became, Whis remained untouchable.
"The control of your power isn't bad, but there's still a great deal of room for improvement," Whis said calmly, effortlessly dodging every strike from Li Xu.
"Damn it!"
Li Xu was growing frustrated. Despite unleashing his full strength, it felt like he was punching through mist nothing landed, no matter how precise or powerful the attacks were.
"You're hesitating when you attack. That hesitation slows down your speed and breaks your rhythm," Whis chuckled, his movements still completely relaxed as he sidestepped another punch.
"So annoying!"
With a sharp cry, Li Xu activated the Law of Strength a power derived from the understanding of universal laws that he had gained after absorbing cosmic insights from the Super Dragon Balls. His strength more than doubled in an instant, and his aura surged with intensity.
"Not bad, not bad. To have already grasped the Law of Strength and maintained it this long… that's impressive," Whis remarked, his eyes gleaming in surprise. It was rare for mortals to access the laws that governed reality so early.
Even so, Li Xu's flurry of attacks still failed to touch Whis. The Angel was never off balance not even slightly pushed.
"Transformation can increase your power exponentially for a short time, but it's ultimately a flawed method," Whis said, referring to the nature of Super Saiyan forms and their shortcomings. "You may have learned to stabilize your transformation like Goku and Gohan did during their time in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but the foundation is still externally acquired. You didn't build it from the ground up through internal mastery."
"Your body's natural durability hasn't caught up with your power. When that happens, even a single well-placed attack can break your form completely."
"Like this."
With a flick of his wrist, Whis gently tapped Li Xu's chest with the end of his scepter. The point of contact emitted a burst of divine energy that disrupted Li Xu's ki control. He cried out in shock and dropped out of Super Saiyan form immediately.
Though it looked serious, he wasn't injured and recovered within seconds.
"The strength I just used was equal to your own at that moment," Whis stated, "but you couldn't even endure a single blow."
Li Xu didn't argue. He understood. While transformations could multiply power, they also created instability especially when the foundation wasn't fully developed. But very few in his realm had Whis's divine precision. Only someone with perfect movement and energy control could identify and exploit such a subtle opening in an instant.
Such flaws changed with the user's ki fluctuations, so unless someone had god-tier perception, exploiting it was nearly impossible.
"Whis, earlier you said I had just 'gotten started.' What exactly does that mean?" Li Xu asked.
Whis smiled and explained, "All laws are divided into four stages: Entry, Minor Completion, Major Completion, and Perfection. One to three is considered Entry. Four to six is Minor Completion. Seven to nine is Major Completion. Full mastery Perfection is ten."
"Each level greatly enhances your control over that law, and your current comprehension of the Law of Strength is still within the Entry realm."
"Which level are you at, then?" Li Xu asked, intrigued.
Whis simply smiled and shook his head, refusing to answer. Clearly, his level of understanding was far beyond Li Xu's grasp.
"I sensed another kind of power inside you just now. Why didn't you use it?" Whis asked, his tone still light, but clearly testing something.
"I haven't learned to control that power yet. If I try to use it now… I lose myself," Li Xu admitted. He understood that Whis was referring to the berserker-like state of the Legendary Super Saiyan—a form he'd glimpsed once, but feared unleashing again.
"Then the focus of your training will shift to controlling and refining your power from now on," Whis nodded in approval.
"Understood," Li Xu replied.
He wasn't too concerned with increasing raw strength. What he truly lacked was absolute control the kind that separated mortal warriors from gods.
"My training regimen is extremely rigorous," Whis said with a deceptively pleasant smile. "I won't go easy on you. If you can't keep up, I'll stop teaching you."
"I'll never give up!" Li Xu said firmly, resolve burning in his eyes.
And so began Whis's relentless training. From the outset, many flaws in Li Xu's style were exposed each pointed out meticulously by Whis.
"Don't rely entirely on ki sensing to locate your opponent. While it's effective most of the time, there are beings in the universe without detectable ki. If you run into them, you'll be left vulnerable."
Li Xu nodded. He remembered that Androids 17 and 18, as well as divine entities like Beerus or Zamasu in certain forms, had no ki that could be sensed conventionally.
"Then how do I locate someone who gives off no ki signature?" he asked.
"You rely on life force instead. All living beings, whether organic or artificial, emit a natural biological rhythm an energy signature distinct from ki. Even advanced androids like Cell, who can suppress or mask their ki, can't fully conceal their life energy."
"How do I sense life force?" Li Xu asked, leaning forward slightly.
"That," Whis said with a shrug, "is something you'll have to grasp yourself. It requires an elevated level of perception what some call Spirit Perception a more refined form of ki sensing. It can't be taught directly."
