RONAN'S POV
The scream sliced through the woods like a knife through cloth, and I realized instantly that someone was perishing.
I raised my fist, signaling my pack to halt. We had been monitoring Klaus's men for hours, tracing their awkward trails through the forest. The fools were completely unaware of how to tread softly, creating snapped branches and flattened vegetation in their wake.
"Boss," Lyra murmured next to me, her hand poised on her weapon. "That seemed to be Marcus."
I nodded somberly. Marcus was among Klaus's top trackers and also one of the most ruthless. If he was shouting like that, whatever affected him was truly remarkable.
A different scream resonated among the trees, but this one was abruptly silenced, sending chills down my spine. Next arrived the growling. Profound, instinctual, and utterly frightening.
"What on earth is that?" Jake muttered from behind me.
