Chapter 23 - You Think You're the Only One Who Can Do That?

No sane person would see a couple meter tall feral creature locked gaze towards oneself with bloodshot eyes and just stand there instead of running, especially when said creature is biting a fellow human on the neck, the person's eyes displaying the horror of his last moment as his lifeless pupil shows an expression of pure, utter despair.

If there's anyone farther than any other human to sanity though, Azrael can proudly claim that he is said person, the proof being the fact that instead of running away from this monstrosity that is clearly way stronger than any average beast in the second floor, he chooses to stand his ground, the tip of his already weathered sword pointing towards the creature, not shaking even a tiny bit as he stands there, unwavering.

Seeing the position he has taken, the massive canine monster couldn't help but let go of the prey that it already in its mouth, taking interest in this new 'prey' that it just saw, thinking that this creature is far more interesting than the one it just hunt, the creature who just slipped out of consciousness from terror of facing it.

Revealing its sharp, razor-like teeth and the fang that is longer than a dagger, the creature appears to smile as it looks with its ruby crimson eye towards the young man, causing the young man's face to twitch as he wonders whether this creature is disdaining him.

"You're quite smart, aren't you?" doing his best to keep himself from exploding out of anger, being looked down upon by a creature that is clearly no smarter than himself, Azrael remarked with a smile on his face, the grip on his sword tightening so much that it starts getting reshaped to his grip, something that happened to fast for him to react in time.

'Damn it! This is a really good sword, I spent a lot of money for this and now…' looking at the ruined handle of the sword, Azrael even thought to himself that he should probably also learn some basic repairing skills so that he can still keep using this sword, refusing to change to another sword as apparently, he wants to make the most out of this one, as if he had yet to push this sword to its very limits already.

"Tsk, another expense… this is on you little pup…" taking a mental note after finding out that he really needs to buy a new weapon now, the young man mutters, the former part more to himself but the latter part towards the canine monster standing in front of him with the same smug smile despite the sword pointing towards it.

Seemingly able to understand the words that the young man spoke, this monster growled as if telling him that there's no way it is at fault for the sword being ruined, the sound it made being far slower than it as before Azrael could even hear of the growl, he already felt something on his neck, threatening to tear apart his flesh like hot knife on butter.

Unfortunately for this creature, the young man's decade long experience allows him to easily avoid the incoming attack, his reflexes inhumane even when comparing to the ascenders of the second floor as well, and what is even more terrifying is the fact that he has yet to grow to his full potential and strength for the second floor.

"You know, I could just stand there and let you bite me, there's no way you can kill me anyways, it's just, your drool fucking disgusts me…" looking at the slobbering mess this canine is, with its tongue out and dripping saliva everywhere, Azrael said, confident with his [Absolute Regeneration] skill, but not too confident in his skill to keep such disgusting fluids out of him.

Feeling like there's nothing in its mouth after it uses its favorite sneak attack, the canine creature was quite surprised to the point it got wide eyed for a second, before it recovers from this state as it heard the voice of the prey it is hunting, said voice standing just a few meters away from it, clearly standing on a higher place than the ground.

Pretending to be baffled, the monster refuses to move away from its current spot, trying to lure the young man into attacking, where it will get its next chance to end this fight, its strategy showing a patience that is rarely, if at all observed in a creature from the lower floors of the tower.

As the creature is thinking of the moment that it will sink its sharp claws on its opponent while it looks at it with clear surprise, and the same despair that its previous prey has, it couldn't help but reveal a manic smile that made it appear all the more threatening, said smile disappearing as it felt its opponent disappearing from his previous spot, clearly prepared to lunge towards it with all he got.

As the canine monster starts preparing its attack, leaping and slashing its claw on its opponent's body, possibly cleaving it to multiple pieces, the opponent approaches attacking distance, with his sword inching closer and closer to the monster's body.

A few centimeters before Azrael manages to drive his weapon into the monster's body, the monster disappears once again, blowing up dust in an explosive wake of speed untraceable by the naked eye, exhibiting movement that shouldn't really be possible for something of its size, with the only explanation that the young man can form for this behavior being the fact that this is the tower, and anything can and will happen in it.

Appearing behind him with glowing eyes that is clearly lusting for fresh blood, Azrael felt the monster's claws approaching his torso, the cunning opponent now revealing a victorious grin as it felt that there's no longer any way for its opponent to avoid or even just mitigate the attack it just sent.

"You think you're the only one who can do that?"
