Chapter 9 - The Ghoul's true intention

I smirked waiting to appear in my world and control everything, and even the unfazed Hugh, but when I looked around, the world was just as it was.

I looked up and saw there was no ghoul hanging on to buildings. I swallowed hard and looked at Hugh whose expression had changed and was filled with curiosity.

I went again, "REALM OF DOMINANCE: EXTEND!" Nothing happened.

"What the hell is happening?" I growled, trying to control my anger. "Why isn't this working?" I muttered.

"What are you trying to do?" His voice made me jump.

I stared at him for a few seconds, wondering if he was just too powerful that my real wouldn't open for him, or, I was losing the Omnipotent power Maki told me about. Probably he was taking it away because I shut him up.

"Don't bother about me. I was just reciting some words I remembered from a book. It was really a good read and now, it's stuck in my head." I lied.

He stared at me for another minute, trying to read my emotions and find out if I was lying, but I remained calm until he walked away.

"Maki what is going on? Why couldn't I access hell?" I asked, getting agitated that the ghouls power weren't powerful enough after all. Maki said nothing, which got me raging.

"Hey, I think they are in trouble," Hugh called out my attention and when I looked at the bank, I saw people running out including the thieves, holding bags of money.

"Well, they succeeded," I muttered and went after Hugh.

The team were all on the floor, groaning with tears flowing out from their eyes. There was a bad odour wafting the air, and something was sprayed around that made my eyes hurt too.

"Let's take them out," Hugh said and helped the captain out. I followed suit until we all got every members out.

"Damn, those mother fuckers!" May cursed, rubbing her eyes.

"What happened in there?" I asked, looking at their sorry selves. Their plan failed. If only they had agreed with mine.

"Those guys sprayed us immediately we got in," Dennis answered. "They weren't afraid and still went on with robbing the bank."

"We should have just listen to the newbies and go with their plan," Georgie pointed out, finally able to open her eyes. "Those guys were waiting for us because they saw us. Our pride made us fail this time," she admitted and no one rebuked her truthful words.

"Let's get out of here. We need to report our failed mission as always," the captain ordered, able to open his eyes too.

We all stood up and began to walk back to our van like dejected souls, or rather, failures. We drove back to the headquarters and were ordered by Hero to go back to our dorms.

The CSS gave each agents a dorm and the better part was us not sharing with anyone. I went in and fell on my bed, letting out a deep sigh.

After a minute of silence, I asked, "who was he?"

Maki appeared before me and fell on his kneels. "I apologize master for trying to blow our cover. I got agitated seeing him."

"I asked, who is he?"

"I sensed the spirit of the grim reaper in him," he answered and I stood up from the bed.

"Grim reaper? The angel of deaths who takes people souls?"

He nodded, "Yes. They are also the worst enemies of the ghouls. We ghouls feeds on souls, but they, they send the souls to the afterlife, preventing us from feeding on them."

There are so many mysteries in the world, and that made me wonder how the humans would react when they discover these mysteries too.

"So, he is a grim reaper living among the humans?"

"Yes, master," he answered and went on, "Although, he doesn't know yet. He haven't awaken his powers yet, but when he does, he would be a stumbling block for us."

I laughed and stood up. "I don't care about that," I answered to his surprise. I walked closer and covered the space between us. "How powerful would he be compared to me when I get the twelve ranks to submit?"

He stared at me for a few seconds before he replied, "You will be undefeatable."

"Good," I answered and stepped back. "Then, I will defeat him soon enough after I find the twelve ranks."

"But master, you can't defeat the lowest rank at this state you are. I am afraid the grim reaper would become powerful before you are able to get one of the twelve to bow to you," he answered.

I laughed at his words and started walking towards the bathroom. "Maki, you underestimate me," I said and opened the door. "I will get stronger and defeat him." I opened my palm and a blazing arrow appeared. "I know what it means to be weaker than someone. They will look down on you and step on your feet countless times. I am not going to let that happen again. I will be above everyone and no one would ever look down on me," I vowed and entered the bathroom, locking the door behind me.

Maki appeared back in hell's palace and sat on the single throne in the dark, reversed world. He folded his hand into a ball and punched the armrest.

"Our plan is getting jeopardize," he grunted. "I feel, I made a mistake this time!"

"Lord Maki, we warned you. We told you this human would not be up to the task," a voice spoke out but no one appeared.

Maki grunted and leaned back. "I was with him all through his life. I thought he was too perfect because of the anger and the intent to kill I saw in his eyes, but now, he is trying to gain power above us."

"What are you going to do now, lord Maki?" An invisible woman asked.

"I am going to put an end to his pride. I will end him," he replied.

"What about our plan to bring back our true master, Cyril?" Another lady asked, with a shrilling voice.

Maki stared at nothing for a few seconds before he smirked and stood up. "We will find another human who will be sacrificed to bring back our king. Someone who would bow to our every command and not try to rule over us. Reggie Scott is no longer needed anymore. His hunger for power is beginning to overwhelm him." He stayed quiet for a couple of seconds before he called. "Eight?"

"Yes, lord Maki," A high-pitched voice answered.

"You are the lowest rank and with how smart Reggie is, he would find out who you are and try to come for you and make you submit."

She laughed out hysterically, shaking the walls. "Defeat me? That weakling can never defeat me. I will end him with just a snap of my finger," she boasted.

"Then, end him before he finds you!"
