Chapter 10 - Avenge Her

I got to Grand deck town where the team was told to meet, and met everyone there. "Sorry am late," I apologized realizing I was the last person to get there.

"No you aren't. We just happened to get here before time," Hero answered and faced us all. "Our mission this time is to stop a group of protesters in Milky line region. According to the report, they are causing public disturbance and are becoming violent. They are also commoners." He read out the mission and added, "we are to calm the situation down and hand over the protesters to the region's Mayor."

"They must be protesting for the injustice done to them," Georgie pointed out with her eyes wet and her voice shaky. "Why are the government unfair to them?"

"Georgia, it's not time to allow our emotions take a better of us. Besides, we don't know what they are protesting against. It might be something not worth the damages they are causing in that region," the captain answered and put back his phone into his pocket. "Let's go there, do as we were commanded, make it our first successful mission this year: it sound easy by the way, and get out of there. At the end of the month, we will receive our salaries as we deserve."

He looked at each of us and when no one said a word again, he yelled out, "Let's move!"

We got into our van and drove away. The journey to milky line region was a thirty minutes journey. It was a city in near desolation. The Commoners were all sitting by the roadsides, begging for arms. The region reek of poverty, and there was obviously no care from the top officials.

Seeing our car drove in, we got their attentions and most of them were perplexed. Some couldn't hide how surprised they were.

We drove to the mayor's house and noticed it was the only tall and beautiful building in the region. The others, were just ruined camps, and the few houses built were old and ruined.

"This place is the worst," May muttered.

"This is one of the lowest regions. They are occupied by Commoners. No job, no social amenities, no assistant. They are just left in isolation and forgotten. Not even their Mayor is trying to help," Dennis revealed, and sighed deeply, feeling pity for them. We all felt pity for them.

They did nothing. Because they were commoners? They are all humans too.

A quick flash back ran through my mind, causing a low growl to escape my mouth. I fisted my hand and lowered my head. I knew what they were going through. I once lived in a low region with my family.

"There they are," Hero announced and we all looked outside to see the group of people protesting around the mayor's office.

"They are twenty of them. We will be able to manage them," he added and stepped out of the car. We all followed suit. "May, your calming flowers would be needed here."

She nodded and stepped forward. "SWEET ROSE: Fill them up with your sweet goodness and bring peace to their hearts!"

Pink rose flowers appeared in the sky above their heads, and a sweet scent was released.

"Everyone, cover your nose. Do not inhale it!" The captain ordered and we did as told.

The people who had inhaled the sweet scent got relaxed and calm immediately, like an angel of calmness had passed through them and fulfilled their desires. They all dropped their weapons with smiles covering their faces while talking happily to each other.

Is this the power of May? I never expected someone so tough and arrogant to have such peaceful power.

"That is not only what she can do," Carson replied, as if reading my thought. "Her sweet powers have their evil sides. She has the ability of controlling human emotions with her rose flowers, that includes causing anger or having a feeling of betrayer. She can turn people against each other," he explained. "Never let her use the black rose. That is the most dangerous and it carries her own emotions."

I nodded, perplexed about how great her ability was, but yet, the squad never succeed a mission.

Hero stepped forward and began to address the people. "People of Milky line, we know you are angry over so many unfortunate situations. You are been treated unfairly and no one is talking about it," he let out a deep breath and went on. "But, resulting in violence is not the right thing to do."

An old woman among them walked forward and took his hand in his, "We know, darling. Violence is not the right thing to do. The mayor's hoodlums were the ones who use violence to drive us away but we remained our ground because we are tired of being treated badly," she replied, smiling brightly, with the flowers still messing up their emotions. "They must have called you here to drive us away." She chuckled and step away.

"We don't want something much. We just want our mayor to release the aids the government had sent to us this month. Even though it is small and can barely feed us, we wish it would be given to us," another man pointed out, calmly.

"The Mayor takes away 65% of our farms produce and also take the government's support. We are left with nothing and we have families to feed."

Darn the supremes! The high officials are all crazy. They should be punished for this, but no one would be able to face them. The high officials are people who have reached the levels of an Alpha and Supremes. They are powerful and evil.

Hero let out a deep breath and answered, "I know what they did is terrible, but please, stop this protest at once and I will see how to bring this situation to the government," It was just a promise. Hero doesn't have much power to speak for them. Infact, he is the captain of the weakest squad.

"I will-" His words were cut short when arrows with blazing fire began to rain on the commoners, killing everyone in it path. We all took cover, escaping death.

After taking the lives of the protesters, the arrows stopped and the people who had done it, came into view. They were dressed in agents uniform.

"How easy it was to end their lives!" One of them shrieked. They were eight in number.

"Captain Morgan, what have you done?" Hero asked the leader of the squad, with anger spitting from his voice. "I was taking care of the situation already!"

"It doesn't seem like it. You were told to put an end to them, but all you are doing is talking, like always. Another failed mission," Morgan replied heartlessly. "We got a call from the Mayor and had to drive down here to take care of the easy mission you guys can't handle."

"They are people you just killed!" Georgia yelled.

"People? They are commoners and their lives doesn't matter," he answered again with a smile I wished to scratch off his face.

I tightened my fist as more memories began to flow in. Something similar happened many years ago and I witnessed it all. It was an order from the government too.

"Anyway, clean up the mess. You will get a point for your labour," Morgan added and drove away with his squad.

"Squad 8 should be wipe off," May growled.

I looked at the people laying lifelessly on the floor and my heart sank. They don't deserve this. None of them does.

"Alright guys, let keep our anger behind. There is nothing we can do except take them to the morgue ," Hero said and walked forward.

The team shattered, and we began to cover the people and take them away. Seeing them on the floor only brought back the memories I hated. I was angry, saddened- I had so many emotions raging inside me.

While they were all busy, I wandered off, not able to stand the sight.

Walking away, I heard a cry coming from a corner. I got curious and walked closer to see a girl crying beside her mother.

When she saw me, she shifted in fright. "Please don't hurt me," she cried.

Her mother was among the people slayed.

I swallowed and lowered my head. "I won't hurt you," I said gently. "I apologize for what happened to her."

"She… she protected me even though she was wounded by the arrow," she cried out and held her mother close to her. "They killed her!"

I knelt down beside her, feeling the pain she has to go through for being a commoner. The same pain I had passed through, watching my mother die after trying to save me.

"I can't live without her," she muttered and looked at me. "You are an agent, take my life too."

I looked at her dead mother who was covered in blood with her mouth opened. Tears had dried on her face, which must have come from the pain she felt.

"You say you want to be with your mother?" I asked and she nodded without hesitation.

"Yes. I want to go with her," she answered.

"Then I will take you to her," I answered and drew closer. "Just leave the job to avenge her to me. I will make sure the person who had killed her pays for it. They will pay in million ways," I promised, meaning ever words I said.

She stared at me without saying a word and when I saw how interested she was, I went on, "But first, I need your soul so I can face the enemies. Don't worry, your soul would be you joining hands with me to win the fight. I will win for us."

She said nothing for a few seconds, and when I thought she would change her mind, she finally answered, "You promise to avenge our deaths?" I nodded in response. She placed her hand on mine and muttered, "Then, I give you my soul."
