Chapter 14 - A Culinary Breakthrough?

Head Chef Zigg stared at the busy Julius in amazement.

He didn't know much about Julius, but only chose to stay back because of concubine Ava. Every other chef left and even betrayed Lily Rain. Only he stayed back, refusing to leave no matter how much money was promised him.

What concubine Ava did for his family could never be fully related in one lifetime. He chose to stay no matter what.

Today was the first time he was meeting Julius, and he had to admit that the boy seems far different from the rumors. The new tricks Julius mentioned in his ears made him stare at Julius in doubt, but he still did as told.

"Young master, fear not. I was the best chef when this place was still booming, so you can leave it all to me."

"No." Julius shook his head. "We have very important customers out there, so we must do it together. Time is of the utmost importance today."

Zigg nodded, feeling the pressure on his shoulders grew ten times more. The kitchen staff were also there to assist.

"We will begin with the Taco Bell Delight. First, we must make the sauce… one of the prime ingredients that blends everything down smoothly."

Luckily, the ingredients were sent in just for today's matter, so everything was here. Julius realized that in Etratis, tomatoes were unheard of. It seems it was something not common to them. In future, he must improve it into Etratis.

Thankfully, they had other ingredients he could substitute out for like soy.

With deep focus, everyone scrambled about, doing their chores to the best of their capabilities. Once everything was put in a massive cauldron pot, Julius's voice rang out again.

"Don't leave the sauce unattended."

Zigg nodded, "You three keep watch over the sauce."

With that, they continued on, making all sorts of wraps with flour. Can they say the experience was quite tense? Where did all this Kitchen pressure come from?

Julius showed them how to do it, and he and Zigg did several more before leaving the task for a select few. He showed them how to make Crunchy-wraps as well as burrito wraps.

Dealing with the meat was next. It would have been great if they had a meat mincer, but he hadn't created one yet. The meat used for today's Taco Bell Delight was Pork.

In today's era, cows were too valuable and would be seen as a sin and an offense if a large scale of them were to be slaughtered just for meals.

Cows are sacred for farming, milking and other vital uses. It was unimaginable to the masses if they heard the restaurant was using a steady flow of beef.

Such an offense was enough to get one burnt alive!

Only rarely can one be allowed to eat beef. It's only acceptable if the cow is about to die from old age or is sick. So you can just forget it!

—For now, he could only use pig meat.

Zigg leaned down to touch the meat's texture in confusion. After many years of dealing with meat, he knew this was pig meat.

But why .. Why doesn't it smell bad?

?~?

The reason why people hate eating pig meat in today's world, was because of its foul and eerie smell produced when cooked.

Ugh~

The smell was typically so bad that even if the food tasted good, the smell alone would confuse their taste buds.

Zigg hesitated, "Young master, are you sure we should cool this for our guests?"

"Trust me… It will work."

"—"

Zigg was still hesitant, but Julius wasted no time cooking the meat he sliced off and prepared. He shook his head, feeling that the young master was good, but just very stubborn.

Who doesn't know that pig meat has a dreadful smell when cooked?

Zigg was about to lose all hope in the restaurant's rival when suddenly, another thought dawned in his brain.

No… the smell?… But how?

Julius chuckled after seeing Zigg's mouth drop to the floor.

Biology was the answer.

Pigs have compounds that occur naturally in them that creates the repulsive smell when cooked—Only a CASTRATED pig is good to eat.

After getting castrated, their meat will no longer give off the foul stench. It's because of how bad the stench is that pigs are sold very cheaply. Many don't even believe pig meat can be eaten.

This lack of knowledge was what made him buy off so many pigs at a cheap price.

Sure enough, these were perks of getting reincarnated into a backward era.

Step by step, everything was coming together.

What a beauty!!!!

Gripping the beautiful wrap of ingredients, Zigg bit into it and immediately felt an explosion go off in his mouth.

Hmm.

He couldn't help closing his eyes and enjoying the godly taste that they now called Taco Bell. It was so good that he didn't even know when he finished it.

Seeing the next Taco Bell type that had a Crunchy wrap, Zigg bit into it and also realized he liked it too!

Ah… Such bliss.

Words couldn't describe what his mouth was feeling right now. Now, they felt a fighting power, knowing just the Taco Bells alone could make ground-shattering changes to Lily Rain.

"Young… (smack)…" Zigg smacked his lips, wishing the aftertaste could remain forever. "Young master, it's the best food I've ever had in my life!"

Listening to Head Chef Zigg, Julius felt accomplished.

Good…

They will now send the Taco bell Specials out before getting to work on the KFC Annihilation!
