Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 : Guerrilla Warfare

Niroki's desire to help in the battle seemed ridiculous. That's what Yamile and Zhao thought. "Why would a demon be so soft-hearted?" muttered Zhao.

Zhao's plan looked simple and quick for eliminating enemies, but Yamile still disagreed. She ultimately opted for guerrilla warfare, which involved eliminating enemies individually and unexpectedly.

They immediately put the plan into action. Yamile and Zhao operated from rooftops, watching for careless enemies and striking them swiftly.

Still, it wasn't easy, as the Split Sun group was incredibly arrogant. They continued terrorizing citizens, demanding information about Yamile and Zhao from anyone they met. They would treat anyone who didn't know anything violently.

The city had plunged into chaos, with fear gripping every corner. People were uneasy, uncertain about where to flee or seek shelter. What unsettled them most wasn't just the violence, but the eerie, jarring laughter of the attackers—loud and piercing, echoing through the streets like a cruel reminder of danger.

Panic spread as the sound grew closer, sending chills down spines and silencing conversations. Doors stayed shut, curtains were drawn, and whispers replaced daily chatter. The once-busy streets were now empty, haunted by a chilling symphony of destruction and fear that refused to fade, trapping the entire city in terror.

"They're all Kalanak!" Yamile said this while feeling disturbed by the ugly, riotous laughter of the Split Sun members.

"Yeah! Our enemies are demon power users," Zhao replied angrily.

They spread out across the city in groups of two or three per squad.

One group approached the building where Yamile and Zhao were hiding. There were two of them, and Yamile and Zhao recognized them—it was Recha and Rana. The two Kalanaks were casually walking and laughing in the narrow alley between two buildings.

"We need to take them out quickly," said Zhao, immediately readying his favorite weapon.

Yamile also prepared herself. She intended to leap from the building to attack but waited for Zhao's deadly shot first.

As Recha and Rana entered a dark area, Zhao prepared to fire. He aimed for Rana's head, breathing steadily, focusing to ensure his shot wouldn't miss.

Zhao pulled the trigger. The shot was silent, barely audible. Yamile followed up, leaping from the building with her trident in hand, ready to strike.

"Rana!" Recha shouted in shock as Rana collapsed, blood pouring from her head.

But her shock grew when she realized an enemy was approaching. She looked up—Yamile was already closing in. Recha's eyes widened as Yamile's trident plunged toward her. She had no chance to escape.

"Die!" yelled Yamile as she stabbed Recha's heart.

The woman, known as Madam, died instantly. Her body collapsed beside Rana's, their blood pooling on the ground.

Yamile and Zhao continued their guerrilla tactics, moving from place to place, looking for openings to eliminate enemies without causing loud confrontations.

This time, they hid in a tree in the city park. Three Kalanaks were patrolling, laughing while vandalizing public property.

"This place is too exposed. Let's lure them under the bridge," said Yamile.

Zhao agreed. He climbed down the tree and took position beneath the bridge. Yamile would act as bait, leading the Kalanak into an ambush.

She jumped down and ran toward the bridge.

"Who's that? Stop!" shouted one of the Kalanak.

The three Kalanak chased after her—not running, but flying. But Yamile reached the bridge first and was ready to strike.

Zhao shot one of them in the head immediately upon their arrival, causing him to fall to the ground.

"Damn you!" the others yelled.

Yamile didn't hesitate. Yamile attacked from behind, stabbing her trident through the back of another Kalanak and out through his chest. He dropped dead instantly.

Only one enemy remained. Enraged by the death of his comrades, he focused his fury on Yamile and prepared to attack.

But he forgot about Zhao. With a single shot to the head, the last Kalanak dropped dead as well.

Night fell, and the hunt continued. Yamile and Zhao managed to take out two more Kalanak who were hiding on the rooftops of local homes. They had no chance against the deadly accuracy of Yamile and Zhao.

Their guerrilla assault continued, and the number of dead Kalanaks kept growing. They had sent ten Kalanaks to hell.

The enemy seemed to take notice. The remaining Kalanak began retreating to their base.

"They're pulling back. What should we do?" Zhao asked.

"We wait and watch their movements. If nothing happens, we go home," Yamile replied firmly.

After observing for a while, they decided to retreat as well. The fight would resume tomorrow.

---

After the Kalanak's terror the previous night, the atmosphere in East City was tense. Even during the day, few citizens ventured outside—they were still terrified.

Zhao tried to monitor the enemy. He launched a drone, controlling it from their hideout about 10 kilometers from the enemy base.

The drone spotted no movement. Zhao zoomed in on the enemy's base using his tablet. "Strange," he muttered. "They're never this quiet. Either they're exhausted or planning something bigger."

"Keep watching them!" ordered Yamile.

Zhao was annoyed by his sister's attitude. "What are you even doing?"

"Shut up! I'm putting on a face mask. I don't want acne. I need to take care of my skin after all the fighting yesterday," Yamile said casually.

Zhao ignored her and kept watching. Then he noticed something odd—some of them were entering and exiting a warehouse near their base.

He guided the drone closer. But inside the warehouse, it was empty—just some ropes and a chair.

Nothing suspicious was happening. So Zhao pulled the drone back. He would resume surveillance in three or four hours.

As evening came, Zhao resumed spying, this time with Yamile. Just like before, they watched from a rooftop a kilometer away from the enemy base.

Zhao studied the base carefully. Strangely, the Kalanak, led by two bald men, were gathering in the same warehouse he had observed earlier.

"They're gathering at the warehouse," said Zhao.

"Oh no!" Zhao suddenly shouted.

Yamile rushed over. "What is it?"

"Biacca and Marten have been captured. They're being executed by hanging—their necks are already in nooses," Zhao said in a low voice.

"They're going to be forced to commit suicide!"
