Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Age of Gourmet!!!!

"So what is the final anime available that I can go to?" I asked.

"Well, it's a series that you've probably never heard of. It's kind of old and it's not that popular, at least it's not overseas." The man said.

"Yeah, but what is it?" I asked. The suspense was starting to get to me. I was really curious as to what the anime was, as it could possibly be the last chance for me to get into a really awesome anime adventure.

"Have you ever heard of an anime called Toriko? It was a decent manga but the anime adaptation didn't do that well."

"Toriko? I love Toriko! That's one of my favorite series. I agree that the anime isn't as good as the manga, but still I still really enjoy it." I said excitedly.

"Well, that's a nice coincidence I suppose. So can I assume that you would want to be sent there?" He asked me.

I thought about it for a minute before saying, "Yeah, definitely." I didn't want to agree without thinking it over, but I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to be in one of my favorite anime. After all, I don't think there were any options that would have been better, at least not in my opinion.

"Alright sounds good. It'll be tough to make a decent fanfic out of it though." He said as he clicked some more buttons on his computer.

"Huh? What do you mean by that?" Is what I tried to ask but as soon as he pressed the final button I got transported into the world of Toriko.

I had to start over from being a baby again, but once I had gotten a little older I got a little bit of a bearing of where I was.

Apparently I had started out in some remote village in the mountains somewhere. The world of Toriko was set in a world that was similar to the regular world, except it was filled with extravagant new ingredients and foods and extraordinary monsters. In this world, Gourmet Hunters were sent into dangerous places to hunt these monsters and find these ingredients. The Toriko world was split into two parts. The Human world, which was pretty similar to the world I came from except for the ingredients and monsters that I mentioned earlier. The other was the Gourmet world which was even more spectacular as far as the ingredients and the monsters were hundreds of times more dangerous. It also had strange weather systems and intense environments. It was kind of similar to the New World in One Piece, just for comparison.

Like I said it was mostly like our world, so most cities were modern, but the village I started out at was a rural tribe that didn't use any modern technology. I spent 18 years there, and over that time I hunted with them and trained in the harsh environment of the arid mountains that the village was located in. I even worked on developing a fighting technique of my own. By the time I was 18 I was known as the strongest hunter in the village.

That being said, I had no context of how strong I actually was. Like I said, this village was isolated from the rest of the world, and we weren't official Gourmet Hunters so I had no way of knowing where my skills stacked up compared to guys like Toriko and the others. We also hunted mostly the same type of game around the village, in Toriko, all ingredients had capture levels that obviously corresponded with how difficult that ingredient was to obtain. In some cases this referred to an ingredient that was just difficult to get to, sometimes it was a warning of how dangerous a certain creature was to hunt.

Anyway, my point is that, in this secluded village we didn't have any information like capture levels. That means I have no idea how tough the monsters that I've been hunting for years actually were. When I turned 18 I decided to set out on my own and try to become a Gourmet Hunter.

My adopted parents and the rest of my village were all there to see me off on my journey to become a Gourmet Hunter. It wasn't common for people to leave the village so it was a big event for me to leave.

I kind of wondered around aimlessly for a while because I didn't realize until I had already left that I actually didn't know what I had to do to officially become a Gourmet Hunter. Although I eventually figured it out by asking people I met along my journey, and I eventuallyfound out what I needed to do.

Apparently the IGO (International Gourmet Organization) holds something called the Gourmet Hunter exams. If you pass the exams you get a Gourmet Hunter license. Exams are administered a few times a year at locations around the world. One such exam just so happened to be going on soon and I made sure to make my way there.

The venue where the exams were being held was some kind of sports arena and there seemed to be thousands of applicants there with the goal of becoming Gourmet Hunters. I then went to one of the people out in the front in order to register for the exam.

"Good morning, welcome. Are you here for the Gourmet Hunter exam?" The attendant asked.

"Yes sir." I replied.

"That's wonderful. We just have some forms that you need to fill out, and we will need to see your ID of course." The attendant said cheerfully.

The all sounded pretty standard but there was one problem that I didn't anticipate, and that was that I actually didn't have an ID. I mean after all I had grownup in a small village that didn't have things like ID. Was my dream of being a Gourmet Hunter and going on fantastic adventures around the world going to end before it even started? And over something so mundane?
