Chapter 20 - The Civil Affairs Bureau Tomorrow

"You! You're seriously too stupid. No matter what, you can't divorce Xiaocha. If you do, even if I have to use my old bones, I won't forgive you!"

Grandpa was once again using his body as a threat. But even though Shang Jue didn't say anything, that didn't mean he was going to give in.

As he stepped out of the study, his aunt quickly pulled him aside.

Qin Cha had already been waiting downstairs for five minutes, but she was out of patience. She wanted to get back to filming. Besides playing the little beggar today, she still had two night scenes left to shoot.

In the end, Qin Cha decided to go upstairs to say goodbye to Grandpa Shang before heading out.

But right as she reached the top of the stairs, she overheard Shang Jue talking with his aunt.

"Xiao Jue, that childhood playmate of yours—Minzhi—the one you were always closest to, she's back in the country now. Thinking about it, it's such a shame. If you two hadn't been separated back then, that little b*tch Qin Cha wouldn't have caused any trouble."

So Minzhi was his childhood sweetheart? Someone he'd been in love with?

Qin Cha just felt grateful she had woken up early and hadn't wasted the best years of her life on such a cold, heartless guy. He had Shen Mingyue right in front of him and Bai Yueguang behind him. Thank God she got out early. If she hadn't, she would've been trapped in a cage she couldn't escape from.

She took a deep breath and quickly calmed herself.

Whatever. She didn't have any feelings for Shang Jue anymore. No matter how many women he had around him, as long as she got the divorce certificate, none of it mattered to her.

But now, she really didn't want to go upstairs anymore. She didn't want to waste time fighting or arguing.

Qin Cha turned and walked straight up to Assistant Li—the only one in that house she could talk to properly.

"Please let Grandpa Shang know that I still have work to do. I hope he stays healthy and takes care of himself."

After saying that, Qin Cha didn't say goodbye or even look back. She just turned around and left, walking away without hesitation—calm and cool.

When Shang Jue came downstairs, he caught a glimpse of Qin Cha's back as she left. After hearing what Li said, he curled his lips coldly.

Work? That kind of gig where you get all dirty and exhausted just to earn a few hundred yuan? If she really wanted a future, she better not come begging him later.

Since the day she made it super clear that she wanted a divorce at the store, Qin Cha had been in an obviously good mood. On a break between scenes, she looked down at her phone's calendar. Only two days left until August 31st! The stupid "cooling-off period" would finally be over.

Feeling hyped, Qin Cha called Assistant Li.

"Hello? Ta—Miss Qin?"

Li was driving when he suddenly got the call from her. He looked up nervously into the rearview mirror, trying to figure out what Mr. Shang was thinking. He thought maybe she was calling to say she changed her mind and wanted to come back. If that was the case, at least Mr. Shang wouldn't have to deal with Grandpa nagging all day.

But—

"Li, please let Mr. Shang know that tomorrow is August 31st. He must go to the Civil Affairs Bureau and get the divorce certificate."

Qin Cha was in a great mood, her eyes smiling as she spoke.

Once she had that certificate in hand, she would completely cut ties with Shang Jue. From then on, they would be total strangers—never seeing each other again.

"...This..."

Li didn't expect that kind of call at all. So the last bit of hope he had completely shattered.

And with Mr. Shang sitting right behind him, he didn't even dare to respond.

Qin Cha didn't care what Li was doing and reminded him clearly, "Please make sure to tell him that I'll be waiting for him at the Civil Affairs Bureau on the morning of August 31st. It's better if he comes early to avoid lining up."

As soon as she finished speaking, she hung up without a second thought.

But Li, the assistant, was in a tough spot.

He slowly turned around, and Shang Jue noticed his troubled expression. Lifting his eyes slightly, Shang Jue asked in a calm tone, "What did she say?"

Li, keeping his usual composed attitude, replied, "Mr. Shang, Madam said that tomorrow is the last day of the cooling-off period, and she hopes you can make time to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get… the divorce certificate."

Shang Jue had been getting pressured by his grandfather basically every single day—constantly told to bring Qin Cha back.

He was already sick of all the nagging. And now Qin Cha dared to call and remind him about the divorce?

Was it because he hadn't contacted her in a while, so now she was getting nervous?

Did she think that just because his grandfather came back, she could rely on him to back her up?

"Mr. Shang, do you need me to adjust your schedule for tomorrow?" Li didn't dare to directly ask if Shang Jue was really going to the Civil Affairs Bureau or not.

Shang Jue's eyes turned icy cold. Without any hesitation, he said, "Clear my schedule for tomorrow morning."

If she really wanted to take things this far, then fine—he'd give her what she wanted.

"Mr. Shang… what about your grandfather?" Li wasn't trying to overstep, but he was honestly worried. If Grandpa Shang found out they were getting divorced tomorrow, he might lose his mind and start threatening Shang Jue's health again just to stop it.

Shang Jue narrowed his eyes, voice calm as ever. "After the old man's birthday banquet, I'll contact a foreign sanatorium and arrange for him to go abroad as soon as possible."

This had been his plan from the beginning, but Grandpa Shang was too stubborn and insisted on coming back to support Qin Cha, which caused all this mess in the first place.

There would be no more Qin Cha in the future—and the old man needed to focus on his health instead.

Seeing that Shang Jue had already made up his mind, Li Tezhu didn't say anything else.

At that moment, Qin Cha, who had finished work early, got into the car back to the company.

She was feeling lightheaded and planned to go home and rest for a bit. But just as she was about to relax, her phone suddenly rang.

Seeing the name on the screen, she smiled. "Suisui, are you back?"
