"Alpha, are you alright, Alpha?" Lincoln pestered, but he should have just left after the words I gave him at first. "Didn't you hear me, Lincoln? I said leave, now!" I yelled, turning my darkened gaze at him as his gaze dropped. "Alright, Alpha..." he said before making his way out of the room.
My fists clenched, heart pounding as I slammed my hands against the wall countless times.
I wasn't angry—no, that wasn't it. She had rejected me again. As an Alpha, I had spent my whole life being obeyed, not refused—especially not from my fated mate.
But Elara, she was different. Her denials weren't just words.
I could feel it, sharp-edged, wrapped in pain as they cutted through me. "She was hurting," my wolf also felt it.
And yet, I didn't understand, even though I could sense her every emotion weighing on her. She had gone through something horrible; I wanted to help—I had to. But in the end, I proved useless in that also.
