Chapter 11 - Lucio Reyes - Chapter 11: Holding On to the Same Hope

"Say, what are you doing here anyway?" The nurse asked us. "Food." Mr. Tomas responded. "Ah." I heard the outside become silent as I drank a glass of water. "Even though the principal told you guys to hunker down for now…"

"Well, Lucio here was particularly stubborn about going." I laughed. "I haven't eaten since yesterday anyway." I looked at the clock in the nurse's office.

4 PM.

The door creaked open as I saw the time.

"Yo!" Miguel shouted. He cleared his throat and laughed. "How's Nico?" He asked. The nurse repeated what she said earlier. "Where's Mina?" I asked Miguel. "Ah. She went back to the bridge. She said she was gonna get that ID that was on the gate." I tilted my head. "Hm, wonder why." I propped my chin on my hands and closed my eyes in thought. "Either way, once she gets back, we should get a move on." I said.

Suddenly, that distinctive red jacket appeared, its sleeve had wiped the window's blood. "Mina's here." Miguel said. The ID dangled between her fingers. "Hey." She rested her table leg on the wall. She stood there for a moment and spoke again, "Is he awake yet?"

Miguel laughed, "Since when did you care?" She didn't even honor that remark with an answer, she just sat down. "Well, it's just a laceration, apparently. He'll be fine but just needs rest." Miguel said.

"..."

I glanced at what Mina was holding. "Hey, what's that you're holding?" I asked her. "An ID." "Whose?"

"My brother's."

The nurse spoke up. "Y-your brother?!" "Yes. She responded. "I'm the one who left that ID there, your brother told me to."

Mina stood up and walked to her. "Where is he?" Her tall and imposing figure seemed to scare off the nurse. "Um… He went to the auditorium." Mina took a step back. "So… He really is alive…" She looked at Nico's bandaged head and sat at his side as she seemingly let go off a heavy burden.

"You have a brother, Mina?" Miguel asked. "Did you not pay attention when they fought at the gym?" Mr. Tomas asked him. "Well, I just heard them fight, I didn't know why they were fighting." Miguel sighed, "Not telling your own classmate though… Haaangh…"

"..."

"Well, we should get going." I said. "Ah. I'll be staying for now." Mina said. "Hm? Why?" Miguel asked her. "Because I have to watch over Nico." "Can't the nurse be the one to do that?" Mr. Tomas questioned. "Well, it's ok… She can stay, I need all the help I can get here in the office." The nurse answered.

"I have some things to say to Nico." Mina said. "Then we'll get going," I said as I stood up and stretched my arms. Mr. Tomas opened the door and left. I followed behind him. "Ah. Before I forget, what's your name, Miss Nurse?" Miguel asked in a pompous, flirty tone. "O-oh! It's Aya Lorenzana." "Nice to meet you."

As the door closed, I saw Mina's silhouette through the window, the room seemingly tinged in blood. I still saw her face clearly, though. A smile turned into sorrow. A tear fell from her eye, dripping onto Nico's hand. I read her lips move slowly, as if not wanting to be heard.

"You really stuck around for him, huh?" She wiped her tears, blood slightly smearing her face.
