Chapter 42 - Chapter 7

deal is a deal. Whoever breaks it shall suffer.

"You have ten seconds. If you don't show me your face, I'll consider it a death wish."

I start counting down. Before I even reach one, they show up.

It's a girl.

She looked human—human enough—but no human female could be this big. No human body stands ten feet tall. My eyes meet hers.

"Are you a cursed angel?" I smirk as I ask. She has long white hair.

"How do you know?"

"Do I have to answer? It's pretty obvious." I turn and glance at the door leading to the winter training hall. "Now, where's Max?"

I look at her. She looks at me. Silence fills the room.

"He's in the Black Forest."

Her words hit a nerve. What the hell is he thinking, going to the Black Forest? Is he stupid? What if a demon attacks him? He knows damn well that place isn't made for him. It's crawling with demons, cursed angels—and it's way too close to the Jerefon Mountains, where dragons live.

Icanson dragons stay in the north, so they're rarely seen around here. But Fenon dragons, Leron dragons, and Frero dragons. They live close. And to be specific, those three are some of the deadliest. Sure, there are more than four types of dragons, but out of all of them, only seven are considered the most dangerous. If Max gets anywhere near the Jerefon Mountains, his chance of survival is basically zero. I have to reach him before any creature lays eyes on him.

"What's your name?"

"As if I'm gonna tell you."

Great. Just great. It's really annoying. If someone knows a cursed angel's name, it means they've signed a contract with them. And if the cursed angel refuses to obey the contract holder's orders, they get punished. The most common punishment. Going to church with the contract holder. The second they step inside, they enter a phase called divine punishment. That's when the hallucinations begin—terrifying ones.

"Little cursed angel, tell me your name before you regret it." I don't know if the threat will work, but it's worth a shot.

"Caelith," she murmurs.

"Good girl. Now lead the way to the Black Forest."

A blush creeps up her cheeks when I call her that. She's clearly annoyed—but that's exactly what I wanted.

I wanted to annoy her.

Because it's fucking fun.
