Chapter 7 - The selection arc starts here!

Okay, I am bored.

I never knew that this year's selection would be this boring, and it was, of course, due to the large number of this year's candidates.

Looking at the imaginary watch on my wrist, i knew that time was moving very slowly since the sun had only moved a meter in the sky. Of course it was just how i saw it; the sun might not have even moved at all.

I should build a watch... What is a watch?

The orbs of light would light up once in a while, showing that a candidate had a high-tier affinity with the elements.

"Due to the blessings this year, the requirements for the candidates have been increased heavily," The sect master said as he spoke with the elders and mom.

"Yes, unlike our sect that still allows gold tier affinity, i heard the other high ranking sects are looking for diamond affinity and above." One of the elders said, with a look of concern on his face.

"Is that a reason to be concerned?" Elder Sun asked the elder.

"It's just that the low-ranking sects now are looking at bronze tier and upwards, not even glancing at those with wood tier affinity, anymore" The elder explained.

Okay, the elder is elder Liang; i was just too bored to bother.

"That is really a concern," Elder Meng muttered.

I don't know why they are acting all concerned when they never cared about any other talent other than those having gold tier or above the previous years before. Hypocrites.

"Well, there is nothing we can do now can we?" The sect master added, eyes completely glued to the screen.

"It seems the Green sword sect would have a new talent to nurture," He said again, as a green light flashed.

Oh, the first jade tier talent.

He was what you would call average in all aspects: black hair, brown eyes, and an average face that could be found in any crowd, not really outstanding, yet those brown eyes were really bright. it seems he already knew about such an outcome.

"I choose the coiling wood sect!"

...

Uh, that was... surprising.

"The coiling wood sect?"

"That sect is still around?"

"There is a coiling wood sect?"

"Do they grow trees?"

...

I have never heard of this sect before.

That other practitioner asked a really good question: Do they grow trees?

"Unacceptable!"

A loud roar was heard as a man in purple robes flew down from the VIP stand with his beard literally flying in the air, as his face looked red from rage.

Is he not overreacting a bit?

"How dare you make a mockery of my green sword sect!" The man questioned the young man as his elemental pressure descended on the boy. Yet the boy resisted with a resolute and wild look on his face.

"I never said I would join your sect!" The boy said through gritted teeth.

Ah, a kidnapping.

Happens all the time.

The purple-robed man looked at the young boy and raised his hand.

"Would you care to change your mind peacefully or forcefully?" As his hands glowed a purple light, he was clearly ready to attack him.

Someone help him!

I think i still have some chocolate left over.

"Haha, it seems the green sword sect are hot tempered as ever." A boisterous laugh rang out as another old man flew from the VIP stands with his hands behind his back and an amused smile. "The boy chose a sect, and you wish to punish him because of that? Is that how your sect settles things? How would other candidates then be assured that they can select a sect freely and you won't interfere?"

"You know that is not true." The purple-robed man dropped his outstretched hand, cancelling the power he was gathering. "Don't twist the story; this kid was brought here by our sect to show that he belongs to my purple robed sect and here he is, committing such a heinous act."

Ah, sorry, he said Green sword sect. It's just purple robed sect sounds better

"But he said he never agreed to join your sect, right, uh..."

"Hao Ren," The young man said with a bow. "And you are right, elder Gu I never agreed; he kidnapped me from my sect and brought me here."

Gasp, such a heinous crime! And is he really from that coiling farm sect? it seems he used this stage to announce the sect he belongs to. Very cunning boy.

I saw how everyone looked at the elder from the Green sword sect, making him look awkward.

"Come back." A command was issued from the VIP stand the elder of the Green sword sect came from.

"Yes, sect master," The man said, looking at Elder Gu before flying back.

"You are really brave; I don't know if I should praise you or mock you for your stupidity," Elder Gu said, looking at Hao ren.

"Thank you, elder, for the help, and elder does not need to worry about me; I have my reasons." Hao Ren bowed.

"Hope those reasons can keep you safe." That elder Gu then also flew from the stage.

Well that was anti-climatic, i thought they would at least fight.

That Gu fella should be from the immortal gu sect.

Anyways, the other audiences could of course not have heard what the elder said to that young man, but utilizing a bit of wind waves, it was pretty easy. Another thing air magic is good for is listening in on gossip.

"Haha, that Elder Pei would be fuming right now." Elder Sun laughed heartily at Elder Pei's plight.

He is the man from the Green sword sect.

"Yes, that was supposed to be his disciple." Another elder joined in the laugh.

Well, this isn't something new; that is why some sects host exchange festivals. This was when sects were afraid of their disciples getting poached by other sects, so they would keep these disciples in their sects, and after the annual sects meeting, they would then host the exchange festivals and announce their newly added disciples.

Of course this is only for personal disciples of elders.

Imagine doing it for every disciple that they gain after the annual sects meeting; it would be really exhausting moving from one sect festival to the other.

I was still expecting a fight.

"I challenge you, Elder Ou, for this candidate." A voice yelled from the stage.

Speak of the devil, a fight, finally.

Now you know why i said let the battle begin, if two or more elders of a sect choose one candidate, they can just battle it out.

Great entertainment, but the downside.

We will be here for days.

I could just leave, but that would be seen as being rude less i picked a disciple; then my reason for leaving would be that i wanted to get to know my new disciple.

I might really consider taking a disciple to get out of here.

The elders that challenged each other are from low-ranking sects, since high-ranking sects see it as a barbaric form to settle such a simple matter... Ignore the elder from the Green sword sect, since he literally kidnapped a young man to be his disciple against his will.

It seems they are fighting for a boy with gold affinity.

Poor kid, if it were last year, he would be joining a high-ranking sect. Well, he can only blame his luck.

The chocolate is finished.

"Mom!"
