Chapter 8 - Interesting

It has been two days. Okay, so technically, it's one day and a half, but still, I want to complain so.

Two! Days! that i have been here in this stupid annual sects meeting, of course we did not sleep here, but still, this is just too much.

Last year ended in one day, but now it's like i might stay here for a week. Again am exaggerating, but still, i want to complain.

The reason? Well...

Mom left already since she was old and did not really have the amount of energy she had when she was young. she did leave more candy for me in case I got hungry and told me to get a disciple at least.

If it were before, I would have just laughed it off, but this year.

ANYONE THAT STANDS IN MY WAY OF GETTING A DISCIPLE WOULD DIE!

Now, where are the talents? daddy is waiting.

...

{4 hours later *Imagine the narrator from spongeboob*}

Okay, selecting a disciple is harder than I thought. Some were too fat, some looked like they would backstab me the second they got the chance, others had mediocre talent, and one was actually a month pregnant! What is happening here?

Oh, false alarm, she just had a big belly.

It was not that there were no talents; it's just that most jade-tier talents already belonged to sects, while most diamond and gold talents were heavily fought after by the elders of both low- and high-ranking sects like rabid dogs.

Those low-ranking elders that fought before were just the light to the fuse as more challenges were made.

Even elder Sun got a disciple.

"It hurts!" Elder Sun screamed as his new disciple treated his wounds, applying some healing creams and giving him some candies to relieve the pain and speed up the healing process.

Yes, he fought an Elder from another high-ranking sect for this surprising jade-tier talent who was not part of a sect before joining, which was a surprise to everyone.

Some people would be wondering why these elders would go to such extremes for getting a disciple, and the answers are, well, they are also tired of this annual sects meeting and want to leave too, just like me.

...

Okay, I lied. I don't even know why they do this. I mean, at the end of the day, said disciple would leave you or might even be the death of you after learning all your secret techniques and cultivation methods. I, on the other hand, love my peace and quiet.

This time is just an exception. I want to get the frick out of here!.

I don't know why he is still here, though. if it were me, I would have left a long time ago, but it's not me, so i have no choice but to stay here.

There was suddenly a commotion that drew my attention back to the arena, letting my daydream of swimming in chocolate disappear.

"Wood tier talent"

"Wow, she is the first wood tier talent this year."

"That is sad, the only wood tier after close to thirty thousand candidates."

...

Wait... thirty thousand candidates! They are that many?

Forget that, how are the sects going to accept all these people?

Am I forgetting something? What do you mean? There is a girl?

Looking at the stage through the screen... Yes, the screen is still there. i can't strain my neck, oh, and the chair too, this time I had fresh cotton flowers to the seats and arm rest, wood magic is really convinient.

Anyways, seeing the glowing orb showing a murky brown color, clearly indicating a wood-tier talent, I sighed as she was not my ideal helper, but there was something about her that made me look and observe her more closely.

Maybe i should just accept her. I mean, i have ways to increase the affinity of others; it's just that it will draw a lot of suspicion, and i don't think i can handle all that drama that might follow.

As she was about to take her hand off the orb with a sad and lost look on her face, I caught a glimpse of what looked like a bright yellow color being covered by the murky brown glow.

She has divine affinity!

No wonder my gaze could not help but linger on her.

That is the glow of someone with a divine affinity with the elements; normally such a thing would not be detected by the orb, but it seemed since it was being buried in the wood tier glow, I was able to see it. the murky glow acted as a pinhole to see her affinity.

Her divine-tier talent is actually higher than my demigod-tier talent.

As much as i hate to say it.

"I will take her," I said as I made my way to the railing, looking at the girl closely. "She will be my disciple."

Oh, she looked familiar. Yeah, she is that girl that I gave the perfume ring to. I guess this is fate.

Everyone looked at me with a strange look when I announced that i was taking the girl as my disciple, and I can't blame them; I would look at myself that way too if it were possible.

Talking about divine talent, I do recall getting information about a divine-tier talent destroying half of the mortal realm; of course, she had the help of someone, maybe a lover?.

Right, that rampage affected mother too. It seems if I had not seen the slight glow, there was a possibility my easy life would have been affected.

I guess one could say the heavens were giving me a chance to prevent such a disaster from happening.

"I challenge Elder Zen for this girl."

"..."

Gasps filled the colosseum.

"What, elder Zhong wants this girl too?"

"Is it because she is beautiful?"

"Elder Zen, I can bear more children than her."

Huh, who said that?

Looking around the stands, I saw a middle-aged man looking at me with a look of contempt and gloating.

It can't be him, right? I'll pass, thank you.

Oh, wait, he looks... how did I forget about this guy?

"Or is elder Zen not willing?" The man said, trying to egg me on.

This guy is called Zhong Liufei, some dude that has been going against me ever since I became an elder and is from the Phoenix sect. Apparently he was the youngest elder ever at age thirty-four, and well, I came along.

So in summary, he is just jealous; he also has six disciples too.

Let's say i kind of tricked him into taking these disciples, so this could be his revenge, I guess, but I am not giving this girl up.

Before i could open my mouth to accept his challenge.

"I choose to be Elder Zen's disciple!"

"..."

Ha, it seems having a disciple really does make things easier.
