Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: The Serpent’s Fall and Dumbledore’s Interrogation

"Ice Dragon Dance."

"Damn it!" Voldemort's expression turned ashen. His form began to flicker—faint and translucent. After all, he was merely a fragment of a soul, with hardly enough power to fight back. No wonder he was being completely overpowered.

A massive ice dragon coalesced from thin air, roaring as it charged straight at Voldemort. Its sheer size exuded an overwhelming sense of pressure.

Voldemort gasped for breath, completely drained of energy. There was no way he could dodge this incoming attack.

The ice dragon sank its teeth into Voldemort, its fangs piercing through him. The brutal impact slammed his body into the stone wall.

"Cough… cough…" Voldemort, now frozen to the wall, looked utterly defeated. His clothes were in tatters, his appearance disheveled and miserable. Bloodshot eyes glared at Hermione as he rasped, "You think you've won, Mudblood? I'll kill you one day… mark my words."

"Oh really?" Hermione mocked, staring him down. "Then maybe next time, try not to end up this pathetic. Loser." And with that, she turned around and walked away without a second glance.

"We won!" Hermione said smugly as she approached Rimuru and Milim, brimming with pride.

"Yeah, not bad at all," Rimuru praised with a smile. To have grown so much in such a short time—it was clear Hermione had worked hard.

"As expected of my best friend!" Milim exclaimed, lunging at Hermione and clinging to her like a happy child.

"Alright, alright, stop flattering me," Hermione said with a pleased smile. But glancing at the two standing beside her, she added with a bitter laugh, "Compared to you two, I'm still miles behind."

"Hahaha!" Rimuru scratched his head. "Well, we have been training for a long time. For you to reach this level so quickly is already incredible. Don't sell yourself short!"

"Thanks for the encouragement," Hermione replied, grinning.

"Okay, that just leaves the last one," Milim said, walking up to the stone wall. She clenched her right fist in the air and, without even touching it, sent a powerful punch that blasted a massive hole into the wall. From within the darkness, a huge silhouette began to emerge.

A monstrous serpent, fifty to sixty meters long, poked its head out from the shadows and stared at the trio below with cruel, gleaming eyes.

But what happened next caught them all by surprise—the snake didn't attack. Instead, once it clearly saw who was standing before it, it actually tried to retreat its head quietly back into the hole. Unfortunately for it, the wall was already destroyed, so it had nowhere to hide.

"It seems it can sense our power," Rimuru remarked, watching the basilisk with great interest.

"Whatever. Let's beat it up first and ask questions later!" Milim cracked her knuckles excitedly and hefted her hammer as she approached.

The basilisk tried to slither away, but Milim grabbed its tail with one hand and went to town on it with the hammer.

"GRAAAAAAAAAH!"

Its shrill cries echoed through the Chamber of Secrets. Hermione couldn't bear to watch and covered her eyes with her hands… though she still peeked through her fingers at the brutal, definitely-not-child-friendly scene unfolding.

After a while, the once mighty serpent lay motionless, completely pummeled to death by Milim.

"Bestie, look! I caught him!" Milim cheerfully ran up to Rimuru, seeking praise. Rimuru just rubbed her head helplessly.

"So… what now? Are we just going to leave this giant snake here?" Hermione asked from the side.

"How about… we eat it?" Just saying the word made Milim's mouth water uncontrollably.

"You can't be serious!" Hermione looked horrified, glancing at the basilisk's corpse, its monstrous appearance making her skin crawl.

"Hmm…" Rimuru thought for a moment, staring at the snake's body. "Actually, this thing might be edible. It contains a decent amount of energy."

"So you're both serious? No way. I'm not eating something that ugly if it's the last meal on earth," Hermione declared firmly.

"You sure?" Rimuru raised an eyebrow.

One hour later…

The basilisk was now just a pile of bones. Nearby, the three of them were lounging in chairs, patting their bellies in satisfaction.

"That was delicious! I can't believe it tasted that good," Hermione said, rubbing her now round stomach, completely forgetting her earlier declaration.

Truly, the law of "It's always delicious in the end" never failed.

"Yeah, it was actually really good. But it's all thanks to Bestie's cooking skills! I didn't know you were such a great chef!" Milim said, too full to even move.

"Of course! My Library of Wisdom isn't just for show. It's got pretty much every kind of knowledge in it. Cooking? Easy peasy," Rimuru said proudly. That library had thousands upon thousands of books—he wasn't even sure of all the things he could do with it.

After a long rest, once their food had digested, the three finally left the chamber and returned to their usual, peaceful and fun school life.

Ding ding, ding ding, ding ding!

"That's all for today's lesson. Class dismissed."

Just as the bell rang and the trio was preparing to head off to watch Harry play Quidditch, a figure blocked their path at the door.

"Need something, Professor Snape?" Milim asked with a frown. Ever since that incident, she hadn't stepped foot back in the Potions room and had taken a firm disliking to Snape.

"Headmaster Dumbledore wants to see you three. Follow me," Snape said coldly, paying no attention to her attitude.

"Looks like we've been found out," Hermione sighed.

"Relax. I'm sure it's nothing major," Rimuru said with a reassuring smile.

Hermione could only shrug in response, and the three followed Snape to a meeting room.

Inside were not only Dumbledore, but also Professor McGonagall.

"Welcome," Dumbledore said, expression serious. "Let's skip the pleasantries. Who are you really? Why are you here? And Miss Grant," he added, looking at Hermione, "I trust you'll be giving us a reasonable explanation."

His eyes narrowed. Beneath his robes, his hand tightened around his wand—just in case.
