Chapter 5 - Friends

The assembly dragged on, the sun scorching hotter as the principal droned about "excellence," "discipline," and other buzzwords that made Yon's eyelids droop.

"Psst—hey. New kid, right?" A voice hissed from beside him.

Yon glanced sideways. The boy was pale, wire-framed glasses sliding down his nose, his uniform buttoned all the way to the collar like a walking rulebook.

"Yeah, obviously," Yon muttered. "We're literally in the newbie line."

"Right, sorry! I'm Direnjie. 10th grade, social track. Um… wanna be friends? Everyone else says I'm… too much." He adjusted his glasses, cheeks flushing. "Because of these, probably."

"Relax. I don't care about glasses," Yon shrugged. "And yeah, sure. Friends."

"Really? Tha—"

"WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT TALKING?!"

A hand clamped down on both their ears—Coach Park's grip iron-tight. "You two. Now."

Alice snorted from the girls' line, mouthing "RIP" as Yon and Direnjie were marched toward the building.

Really? In this fucking day one? I don't get it with him

"First day, and you're already testing me?" Coach Park shoved them into a hallway lined with bathroom stalls. "Lucky for you, I'm feeling generous. No scrubbing toilets… this time. Now run back before I change my mind."

They bolted, shoes squeaking on polished floors.

"Your fault," Yon hissed.

"Sorry!" Direnjie wheezed, glasses askew. "But… friends?"

Yon rolled his eyes but didn't let himself smile. "Just shut up and run."

They slipped back into formation just as the principal's voice boomed, "Let their idiocy serve as a lesson! Day one, and already breaking rules? Pathetic!"

The assembly ended shortly after, students scattering like ants fleeing a flood. The heat had spiked to a brutal 35°C, leaving bodies slumped in the shade of classroom verandas.

"Look—three people fainted already," Alice said, fanning herself with a notebook. "This school's basically a sauna with desks."

Yon and Direnjie shuffled over, their uniforms damp with sweat. After end of the sessions of talking, they then go to the classroom corridor cause of break 1 hour. Yon and Direnji then go to Alice, Yon wanna Introduce him.

"Alice, meet, this is Direnjie, my new friend" Yon announced. "Direnjie , meet the human hurricane called Alice"

"Hi! Call me Renjie," he said, pushing up his glasses.

"are you kidding me? Hurricane human?" she said when she facing Yon

Alice then squinted and facing Direnjie. " Direnjie? Like the Honor of Kings Hero? Cute name. Shame about the glasses, though. Total nerd vibe."

"I—I need them! My eyesight's terrible!"

"Ever heard of contacts? Cheap, easy, and they don't make you look like a tax accountant."

"Contacts?" Direnjie blinked. "Like… eye contact?"

" it's not eye contacts but eyes contact, you know what i meant" Alice groaned.

" what's the difference?" he confused

"God, you're hopeless"

Yon smirked, leaning in. "What about me? Handsome, right?"

Alice sized him up. "Eh. You're like… a solid 6.5. Basic, not offense."

"Wow. Brutal."

The three burst into laughter—too loud, too unguarded for strangers who'd met hours ago. Around them, students glanced over, some sneering, others hiding smiles. But in that moment, under the sweltering sun, Yon felt it: the faint, fragile spark of belonging.

Their laughter was cut short by a voice sharp enough to slice through the humidity. "What's so funny? Share the joke!"

A girl stood before them, her uniform perfectly pressed, black hair coiled into a braid so tight it looked painful. Yon, Alice, and Direnjie froze mid-chuckle.

"I'm Yon," he said, recovering first. "This is Direnjie, and that's Alice."

"Arli," she replied, flashing a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Newbie, social track. Mind if I join… whatever this is?"

"Join? We're starting a club," Yon declared impulsively.

Three pairs of eyes snapped to him. "A club?" Alice hissed. "Since when?"

"Since now." Yon squared his shoulders, the midday sun glinting off his sweat-damp hair. "To 'preserve our sacred bond' or whatever. You in?"

Direnjie adjusted his glasses, voice timid. "Um… how about… Super Honor?"

"Perfect!" Alice barked a laugh. "Cheesy enough to match this hellscape of a school."

Around them, students sprawled in the shade—some napping, others flipping through manga, a few braving push-ups in the sweltering heat. None noticed the four oddballs huddled by the lockers, inventing a club that would, unwittingly, alter the course of their high school lives.

"All in favor?" Yon thrust out his hand.

One by one, palms stacked—Alice's smudged with ink, Direnjie's trembling slightly, Arli's cool and deliberate.

"Welcome to Super Honor," Yon grinned. Most extroverted cult on campus.
