Chapter 9 - Killing Demons

Walking out of the stronghold was as if he was entering a completely different world. Inside the stronghold, everything seemed okay, but outside, things changed completely.

As he looked back at the stronghold, Bob noticed that there seemed to be a light dome that was surrounding the stronghold. It was clearly the one that was filtering out the grey mist.

The sky was covered with clouds at the moment, blocking the sun. The grey mist that was surrounding the land led to limited visibility. While it was not enough to completely block someone from seeing, it prevented Bob from seeing too far into the distance.

As Bob moved the arcane energy within his body, he felt that his vision was being cleared. It seemed that the higher the power level of a person, the further they could see in this gray mist.

Looking around him, Bob could see that many people that were walking out of the stronghold headed in a particular direction. It seemed that before they left the stronghold, they had already chosen a destination.

But this was the first time that Bob was coming out of the stronghold. Regardless, he had already heard about the demon zones. Even though they were called demon zones, they were actually areas where ruins had appeared.

Due to the presence of the ruins, the population of demons in those areas was extremely high as compared to other areas. That was the reason why those areas were named as the demon zones.

This piece of information had been gotten from the old man who had adopted him. That old man had been occasionally venturing out of the stronghold, and the house that they were living in together was owned by the old man.

Bob hesitated for a moment, as he did not know any direction where he could find a demon zone. He could have asked, but that would definitely bring more attention to himself, especially if someone at a high power level noticed him.

After thinking for a moment, Bob decided to randomly choose a direction. He did not know where to go to, but he was not planning to venture that deep into the wilderness.

So, he began moving away from the stronghold, cautiously observing his surroundings. Close to the stronghold, the number of demons that appeared was quite low, unless the demons wanted to launch an attack against the stronghold.

So, if Bob wanted to encounter the demons, he would have to venture deeper into the wilderness. And after covering a distance of about a kilometer, Bob finally noticed a presence a distance away.

This was not the first time that Bob was seeing a demon. Well, it was the first time for the current Bob, but not the previous one. With occasional attacks by demons, the demons would occasionally sneak into the stronghold.

There was a particular time that the previous Bob had encountered a demon that had entered the stronghold. Back then, Bob was still quite young, only 8 years old. It was only due to luck that the demon was quite far away from where he was, and it was of a low level. Otherwise, Bob might have ended up dead at that time.

The presence that Bob had noticed was a creature with a shape that did not resemble any animal that Bob knew of. Well, it was almost a mixture of different animals, but some areas were kind of exaggerated.

The creature stood about 3 meters tall, possessing a giant body. It was covered with a black mist, and the blood red eyes were currently staring at Bob. It was clear that the demon had already noticed that Bob was approaching, which was to be expected.

Bob carefully observed the creature in front of him, and from the energy fluctuations coming from the demon, he could immediately tell that it was a level 2 soldier demon.

Even though the power level of this demon was extremely low as compared to himself, this was his first encounter with a demon after transmigrating into this world after all. And, it was going to be his first combat situation.

Roar!

And as Bob was thinking about this, the demon roared before suddenly charging over. As it rushed over, the ground trembled due to the weight of the creature.

Bob came back to his senses. Holding the spear in his hand, though it felt almost weightless, Bob waited for a moment, and as the creature approached, he attacked.

The demon was attacking using a claw strike, wanting to smash Bob into paste. As for Bob, he immediately used the Epic tier Phantom thrust. Even though his power level was higher than that of the demon, Bob had no intention of holding back at all.

Swoosh!

As he attacked, the sound of the spear cutting through the air could be heard, as Bob had launched the attack with full force. In the next moment, the spear collided with the giant claw that was pressing down at Bob.

Boom!

An explosion went off, causing the surrounding vegetation to be blasted into smithereens. A few trees that were close by were uprooted from the ground due to the shock wave that had been generated by the attack.

As for the demon, together with its claw, they had been exploded into a bloody mist. This left Bob slightly startled, as he had not yet gotten used to his current strength.

It seemed that by using just the spear alone, he would be capable of dealing with the demons of low levels. So, Bob decided not to try using the Epic tier skill for the time being. After all, the commotion that had been caused by this attack would obviously attract the attention of people close by.

Bob approached the area where the remains of the demon were. The blood of this demon was black in color. And right now, among the remains of this demon, there was a silvery bead. This bead was the size of an adult's fist.

Bob already knew about this bead, a demon crystal. He had seen through the memories that he had obtained from the previous Bob who had seen several demon crystals from the old man.

Bob went ahead and picked up the demon crystal from the ground. It did not weigh that much, and after observing it for quite a while, Bob tried breaking it. But despite exerting all his strength, he was not capable of breaking it.

Shaking his head, Bob placed the demon crystal in the bag. Immediately after that, he began venturing deeper into the wilderness. And a few minutes later, he encountered yet another demon. This time, the demon was at level 4 of the soldier realm.

Having already learned from the previous encounter with a demon, Bob did not use any skill this time. As for the demon, the moment that it spotted him, it immediately attacked.

This made Bob realize something. It seemed that the demons did not have high intelligence. That was at least for the low level demons. As for the high level demons, Bob was not sure, but he believed that they had higher intelligence. Otherwise, they would not use the strategy of blocking all the ruins in the world in order to prevent the humans from growing stronger.

With just a single strike from Bob, even without using a skill, Bob was able to easily kill the demon. He only needed to use his agility, get closer to the demon and strike at its head.

And even though he did not use any skill, the head of the demon was still blasted off. Bob could only shake his head, as it seemed that his power was too overwhelming for these low-level demons.

Wasting no time, Bob picked up the demon crystal from the ground, placed it inside the bag that he was carrying, before moving forward. Anytime that he encountered a demon, it only needed a single strike from him to be able to destroy it.

Occasionally along the way, Bob encountered a few people, but everyone minded their own business. Bob did not interact with any of them, as the only thing that had brought him out here was to deal with the demons and obtain demon crystals.

The deeper Bob went Into the wilderness, the stronger the demons that he encountered along the way. Additionally, it seemed that the number of demons increased the deeper he went into the wilderness.

From time to time, he would encounter demons that were in groups of two or three. But despite the numbers, it was quite simple for Bob to be able to take care of them.

About an hour later, Bob suddenly stopped. It was not that he had encountered another demon, but he had encountered a problem. He had killed quite a number of demons, and the number of demon crystals that he had obtained was quite high.

Due to the size of the demon crystals, the bag that he was having was already filled with the demon crystals. That implied that there was no space for Bob to continue putting in anymore demon crystals.

'I guess I will have to try and buy a storage artifact. Otherwise, it is going to be troublesome for me to be able to carry the demon crystals during my next ventures.' Bob thought to himself.

After thinking for a while, Bob decided to continue moving deeper into the wilderness. And after getting to an area where no one was around, Bob found a small bush and dug a hole using his spear.

Then, he buried all the demon crystals that he had gathered until now. He had no intention of carrying all of them back at once, as he could still venture out and bring them back later on.

So far, he had not encountered any demon that was above level 6 of the soldier realm. So, he wanted to continue venturing deeper, as he understood that the higher the level of the demon killed, the higher the value of the demon crystal.
