Chapter 7 - 7

After reading through the information about the safe house, Zhang Ye immediately selected the service options he needed.

First was the full structural reinforcement—completely replacing the materials used in his house.

The walls, ceilings, and floors would all be replaced with 200mm-thick alloy panels, fully substituting the original structure.

This alloy was an aerospace material—only one-third the weight of steel, but ten times as strong!

Using this material to build a safe house allowed it to be embedded seamlessly into Zhang Ye's apartment building without overloading the structural support.

For the windows, he selected the world's best bulletproof glass.

Next was the ventilation system, all of which would be upgraded with air filtration features.

No harmful gases would be able to enter from outside.

Lastly, a complete surveillance system was included—offering full 360-degree, blind-spot-free monitoring both inside and outside the home.

The doors would be replaced with heavy-duty, vault-grade security doors—the same kind used in banks, nearly impossible to breach even with small explosives.

In short, Zhang Ye had only one requirement: to turn his home into an impenetrable steel fortress.

After selecting all the options, Zhang Ye handed the computer back to Wu Huairen.

Wu Huairen's eyes widened when he saw the list.

A 120-square-meter apartment, yet it was being turned into an ironclad bunker.

"Add some weapons, and this would be a full-on fortress," Wu muttered.

Zhang Ye's eyes gleamed at the comment.

"Oh? You know something about fortresses?"

Wu Huairen chuckled. "I used to be a mercenary overseas. I know quite a bit about military and tactical equipment."

A flash of inspiration crossed Zhang Ye's mind.

He lowered his voice. "Can you get me a gun?"

That question made Wu Huairen's expression turn serious.

In China, civilians are strictly prohibited from owning firearms.

"Mr. Zhang, you should know—that kind of thing is illegal for private citizens," Wu said in a hushed tone.

"Are you in trouble with someone dangerous? Is that why you're so cautious?"

Zhang Ye took the opportunity and nodded.

"Yes. I've crossed some people in the underworld. They're ruthless and heavily armed."

"I just want something for self-defense. Otherwise, I'm just a sitting duck even in my own home!"

Wu Huairen let out a dry laugh. "Mr. Zhang, I'm afraid I can't help you with that. We're a legitimate company."

But Zhang Ye could tell from Wu's eyes—he wasn't incapable of getting firearms, he just didn't want to get involved.

Zhang Ye took a deep breath.

Then he said, "This safe house project will cost me over eight million yuan. If something happens to me afterward, it won't look good for your company either."

He stared at Wu and spoke slowly and clearly. "I just want a way to defend myself. If you help me with this, I won't forget your favor."

Wu didn't respond. He frowned, clearly weighing the risks.

He had the connections, no doubt.

But he didn't know Zhang Ye well enough to vouch for him. There was too much risk in making the introduction.

"Why don't you head home first? I can't do anything myself, but I can ask around. If I hear anything, I'll get in touch."

Wu was clearly undecided for the moment.

Zhang Ye didn't push. After all, guns were no trivial matter.

He smiled. "Alright, I'll wait for your news."

"Oh, and I'm in a hurry with this—please start building the safe house as soon as possible."

Wu replied, "We'll have it done in at most half a month."

After their conversation, Zhang Ye signed the contract on the spot.

He also paid a one-million-yuan deposit upfront.

As for the rest of the payment—well, in this lifetime, he had no intention of paying the balance.

With that, he left the Zhanlong Security Company.

Housing was now taken care of.

Next, Zhang Ye returned to his car and made a call to a familiar contact: Liu Yang.

Liu Yang ran a hunting ground in Tianhai City.

He had leased several hundred acres in the western mountains and stocked it with harmless animals for people to hunt recreationally.

He also had many legal sources for acquiring crossbows, compound bows, and air rifles.

Zhang Ye had visited a few times in the past, so he still had Liu Yang's contact info.

He called and asked Liu Yang to help him purchase a batch, offering to pay a premium.

Liu Yang was a businessman—and he occasionally relied on Zhang Ye for favors—so he agreed without much hesitation.

"Zhang bro, what do you need so much gear for?" Liu Yang laughed, though his tone held a hint of caution. "This stuff is for hunting or recreation. You know you can't hurt people with it, right?"

After all, these items would be traced back to him if anything went wrong.

Naturally, someone who ran a hunting ground in Tianhai City had connections.

But that didn't mean he'd take risks for a regular friend like Zhang Ye.

Zhang Ye chuckled and offered a casual excuse. "You're overthinking it. I'm going on a hunting trip with a few friends—planning to visit a wildlife reserve in Africa. So I'm stocking up."

Liu Yang clicked his tongue. "Damn, you really know how to enjoy life, Zhang bro! But watch out for lions and hyenas over there."

"Yeah, will do. So when can I pick up the gear?"

"I've got everything in stock. Come by when you're free."

Zhang Ye didn't waste time. He immediately drove to the western hunting ground and bought the equipment.

For him, time was precious—he couldn't afford any delays.

He purchased five steel crossbows, three high-end compound bows, and 300 arrows for both types.

He also bought two premium hunting knives.

They were made from Damascus steel—tough and razor-sharp. Unless used constantly to chop through hard materials, they wouldn't break or dull.

Perfect for self-defense—or for fighting, if needed.

His entire trunk was packed full of gear.

Seeing all the equipment gave Zhang Ye an immense sense of security.

He drove straight home with everything.

Since everything had been purchased legally—and he even had a hunting license from his earlier recreational trips—he wasn't worried about being questioned by the police.

By the time he got home, it was already dusk.

Zhang Ye went out again and treated himself to a big hot pot meal at Haidilao.

Thinking about how he'd have to make hot pot himself in the future, he didn't hesitate—he ordered 10,000 hot pot soup base packs from Haidilao.

The staff were stunned, thinking he might be a competitor trying to stir up trouble.

Fortunately, Haidilao's customer service was good, so they didn't immediately confront him.

Later, the store manager came to inquire, and after a quick chat with Zhang Ye, agreed to take the order.

The condition: cash payment, just in case this really was a stunt from a rival business.

Zhang Ye was straightforward—he paid over a million yuan on the spot.

His generosity made the manager grin from ear to ear, and they even threw in an extra 500 packs for free.
