Chapter 5 - The Beginning of the end

Margot Yellow-Iris walked smoothly down a broad hall of Dark Howl Pack's main complex. She exuded poise and elegance but on the inside she was enraged. Her mate, the second alpha of Dark Howl had sent a group of their warriors out to find Marco Silversmith. Not any group mind you, an elite group of their own personal guards and they had yet to return.

It was not just the fact that one of her favorite lovers was in the group it was mainly that Kristof had been making these same types od mistakes for the past two years since Marco Silversmith had begun his guerrilla war.

She composed herself as she reached the door to his rooms. She did not want to fight but she did want to ask him what the fuck was wrong with him. 'Not like that Margot. Be calm'

She gave herself one last calming talk and then entered opened the door. Before she was fully in the rooms he began his tirade.

"I don't want to here Margot! He has to be stopped! He continues to hide within our borders and commit these underhanded sneaky maneuvers."

He breathed deeply.

"We have to protect the little territory we have left. This is our last chance. For the last year and a half they have been doing as they please and will Star Fire Pack help? Does that little bitch not know that they will be next once he is finished with us.

"We send people in and only their heads are returned." He actually shivered. Margot raised an eyebrow. When had this werewolf become such a coward. Her mind almost ran back to a time when he was fierce and even scared her in some ways. Now… Now he…

What was he? She listened as he continued on… whining.

"Everything is a disaster Margot. Five years ago we decimated Silver Moon and somehow that worthless Omega still haunts us." His fist slammed into his the armrest of his chair. "Why won't he die!"

Margot had not been truly listening anymore. She was thinking about the last time she had seen him transform. Had it really been that long ago? As the silence stretched out between them she ran her hand down her skirt and had a flash of a memory of sex with her newest lover that morning.

She sighed and bright her mind forward to the situation at hand.

"Kristof. You can not just send our finest on missions like this. Four of our six major cities still lie in ruins and I do not think we will be able to rebuild but maybe one. Our people are defecting to either Star Fire and to join that rogue Marco.

"And frankly dear all you do is sit here and whine all day. Who wants to be led by a coward?"

She heard the deep rumbling growl Kristof emitted but it did not mover her at all. She sighed and pursed her lips.

"If you don't get yourself together I may have to defect myself. Do you think I would align myself with someone incapable? And I definitely will not go down with a sinking ship."

Kristof harrumphed. "And that is why I sent your little Beta want to be off to look for Margo."

She nodded to herself. Her expression going blank as she lost focus looking at him. 'Of course he did. He knew that I could have built a new pack with that one. Such a petty thing to do.'

She did not speak, resigned with the idea that Dark Howl Pack was doomed to ruin, she stood and left without a word or backward glance.

The grey furred werewolf with deep piercing blue eyes slowly stood up. Blood dripped from his mouth, claws, and chest fur but none of it was his. Five werewolves laid dead around him with a sixth a short distance away.

His task complete he first shook himself and a shimmering silver light flowed down his body and all the blood disappeared. Then he slowly began to transform himself back to his human state.

Marco stepped out from a shadow and looked at the sixth body. This was a new member to the pack. Supposedly a rogue looking for a pack home. In actuality he wad a Dark Howl spy.

Marco was actually impressed with this one because he fooled him so completely. He had absolutely no idea until the last second and it was not him who realized it but one of his newly acquired Psi.

He was still praising himself for that decision.

Silk Moon Pack had taken over two of Dark Howl's cities: Night Fall (Renamed Moon Haven) and Moon Song. The werepeople of both cities had actually come to him and asked for help. At first he thought it was a trap but when he began to look at surviving surveillance equipment he knew it was really.

Both had been in complete ruins. They did not have food and when they tried to actually hunt neighboring towns would detain or kill them not believing they were of Dark Howl Pack.

Both cities had become some of the most loyal of all the new Silver Moon Pack.

Marco looked over as Tar, now fully returned to his human form walked to him with spools of war. His lip curled in disgust as he looked down at the traitor.

"It would seem the youngest of our Psi is the most reliable."

"What do you expect. She was born in Night Fall and saw her entire family killed but Dark Howl men, just for asking for help. It has given her an intense hatred for all things Dark Howl."

"And an intense need for revenge."

Marco turned and began to walk away. "She is a very smart kid."

Mystic Howl had once been a grand city. Now it was various piles of rubble, tents, huts and rudimentary buildings under construction. This was the one city that Margot wanted to absolutely be saved for Dark Howl Pack.

But did Mystic Howl want to be resurrected by Dark Howl? They had gone through a lot. Many of them were Psi level seers and they understood the mentality of their leadership and it did not set well with them.

They were the biggest catalyst for defection from Dark Howl and neither Margot nor Kristof knew. But they did not tell their people where to go. They just said they needed to go.

And while most, actually, all of the Dark Howl Psi decided to be of Silver Moon others from their pack chose freely and some followed while others decided to go rogue and still others went to Star Fire Pack.

A small shadow darted between piles of rubble. There didn't really seem to be a thought out destination as the shadow made random turns and doubled back on its own path… as if trying to keep others from following.

The shadow came to a sudden halt and melded seamlessly into the surrounding shadows.

"You took your time."

"It is not my fault." There was a pout behind her voice and she hated it. This little shadow was actually a very intelligent, brave, and young Psi werewolf named Tris. She lived in Mystic Howl but she had defected over to Silver Moon almost immediately. Her parents had been killed during the Tri-Pack Wars but not at the hands of the Star Fire Pack or the Silver Moon Pack but by her own Pack when they refuse to allow her older brother to join Lady Margot's personal guard.

Now her parents were dead and her brother had disappeared.

Tar looked down at the little shewolf with a smirk. He liked her and would've rather she was on his squad but Marco valued Psi too much and wanted to utilize any Psi talent to its fullest potential.

They both stopped and backed into the shadows and a third person arrived to their meeting point. They both arrived early to observe the third person. He was a Silver Moon operative as well. But he was a rogue who was under suspicion. Every Psi he met could not read him, every Psi until Tris came along. But all she got was a feeling of ambiguity, as if he were double minded in someway shape or form.

He stood waiting and a few pebbles fell to his left, causing him to look in that direction, when Tar came from his right and punched him hard in a center portion of his spine.

The werewolf went down, unconscious, and Tar looked to the shadows to the left. Tris stepped out, looking down at the prone man.

"He allowed his mind to relax. He was thinking about how he had to report to Lady Margot." Her lip curled in disgust.

Tar nodded. "So he can close off his mind. Do we need to keep him to find out the method used?"

Tris shook her head. "He showed me everything when he unveiled his mind just now."

Tar nodded and his claws elongated. He drove his clawed hand into the same spot he had hit to render the man unconscious and he shredded the organs there. The body convulsed once and then stilled. Dell y
