Chapter 14 - UNBELIEVABLE

Chapter 14: UNBELIEVABLE

I walked down the stairs, having just wrestled my emotions into control. As I descended, I silently wished Emma would fall into my trap—just so I could finally release my anger on her. I was ready to show her that two could play this game.

As I reached the bottom of the staircase, I spotted Damien leaning casually against the wall, drink in hand. I gave him a brief, cold stare before quickly looking away. I didn't speak to him—I wasn't ready.

I was furious with him for taking Emma's side. Sure, he knew her before he knew me, but that didn't change the fact that I was going to be his wife. He should treat me better.

I moved to walk past him, but his voice stopped me in my tracks.

"Cold attitude?" he said dryly.

I turned to face him, my eyes narrowing, brimming with the urge to lash out. "You don't get to talk," I snapped.

"You can't give your husband the cold shoulder."

"You're not my husband yet," I retorted sharply. "And I'm only marrying you because I have no other choice." The words flew from my mouth before I could stop them.

He chuckled lightly, and the sound struck a chord deep inside me. I braced myself for his next move.

"You should treat your husband-to-be with more kindness, shouldn't you?" he said, grabbing my hand and pulling me closer.

I struggled to break free, but he was too strong. I had no choice but to glare at him, defiant.

"You should show respect like your life depends on it," he sneered, gripping my chin.

"Why should I respect you? Are you my god?" I thundered, my patience finally snapping. "I'm going to be your wife, not your slave. You should be a reflection of me too."

I took a deep breath, then threw the question that had haunted me for days. "And let's be clear—what exactly do you stand to gain from marrying me? I know you're not doing this out of love. So what is it? What's in it for you?"

For a brief moment, I saw it—a flicker of fear and unease in his eyes. But he quickly masked it with a forced calm.

"You have no right to ask such questions," he said, voice trembling despite his attempt to appear in control.

"I've fulfilled my part of the deal by saving your life. Just do your part and stop asking unnecessary questions."

His fear was unmistakable now, no matter how well he tried to hide it. And it left me with one burning thought: What is he really hiding? I must find out.

"If you won't tell me why you're marrying me, then at least tell me what you are. What all of you are." I wasn't done yet. I needed answers. And I would get them.

"Tell me—are you an angel, a demon, a monster? Just tell me!" I pressed, desperation thick in my voice. "It's driving me insane not knowing. So please, just say something."

"You really want to know what I am?" he asked calmly.

I nodded, nearly breathless with anticipation. My eyes locked onto his, searching his face for a hint of truth.

"I'm a werewolf," he said, the words landing faster than I expected.

"A werewolf?" I let out a small laugh, more from disbelief than amusement. "No way. That's impossible. Werewolves aren't real—they only exist in fairy tales. What are you even saying?"

But his face didn't flinch. There was no trace of a joke in his expression—only calm, raw honesty.

"Are you… for real?" I stammered, the question falling from my lips like a loaded weight.

"Do I look like someone who jokes around?" he replied, his voice steady, sincere.

"You didn't tell her what we are?" a gentle voice asked from behind me. I turned around and found his mother standing there, a kind smile gracing her face.

"If I had told her earlier, she wouldn't have agreed to come here," Damien said with a shrug, his tone casual—as if we were discussing something ordinary.

"So… I'm not dreaming? This is real? I'm actually in a house full of werewolves?" My head was spinning.

"Yes, you are," Damien replied, rolling his eyes. "Or do you need proof?"

Before I could respond, he shifted.

Right before my eyes, his body morphed—bones cracking, skin reshaping, muscles stretching. Within seconds, he transformed into a massive, terrifying wolf, far larger and more imposing than anything I had ever seen in movies.

"I'll show you mine too," his mother said gently.

And again, before I could react, she transformed as well—another giant wolf now standing in front of me.

I stared at them, frozen—my mind struggling to process what I was seeing. Confusion, fear, awe, and disbelief surged through me all at once.

I pinched myself. Maybe I'm dreaming… this can't be real.

But it was real.

"Now you believe me?" Damien asked—in his wolf form. He spoke. As a wolf. My brain couldn't take it. Everything overloaded at once.

The next thing I knew, the floor rushed up to meet me, and the world went black.

I fainted.
