Chapter 44 - Chapter Forty-Four: Vows and Visitors

The sun dipped low over the ocean as soft classical music played in the background. The private beach estate sparkled with fairy lights and white rose petals, forming an aisle that led down to a small altar framed by silk.

Maria stood at the top of that aisle, wearing a flowing ivory gown, her curls pinned delicately, her eyes locked on the man waiting for her at the end.

Alexander Kane.

The billionaire who had once terrified her with his presence, now stood with love and pride written across his face.

Junior, dressed in a tiny suit, stood beside his father as the ring bearer, grinning widely.

As Maria walked toward them, each step felt like a chapter closing behind her—and a new one opening ahead.

The Vows

"I used to think love was something I had to earn," Maria said softly. "But you showed me it's something to be given freely, fiercely, and without condition. I don't just marry you today, Alexander—I choose you, every day, forever."

Alexander took her hand. "You've been the bravest person I've ever known. You fought your way out of darkness, and in doing so… you saved me too. You're my heart, my home, my forever."

Applause filled the air as the officiant declared them husband and wife.

Maria and Alexander kissed under the fading sunset, the ocean waves crashing gently behind them.

The Reception

Later that evening, laughter and music filled the beach. Maria danced with Junior, barefoot in the sand, while Alexander toasted with guests from all corners of the world.

But just as the night reached its peak, a figure stepped through the crowd.

A woman.

Elegant, tall, and with striking hazel eyes that mirrored Maria's.

Maria froze.

"Aunt Clarissa?" she whispered.

The woman nodded, smiling with tears in her eyes. "It's been a long time, darling. And I have something you need to see. Something about your mother."

Alexander stepped protectively beside her, his arm going around Maria's waist.

"What do you mean?" Maria asked, breath caught.

Clarissa reached into her bag and pulled out an envelope. "Your story isn't finished yet, my dear. Your mother left behind more than just an inheritance."
