"This place is a mess, sergeant." Mors said.
"And it stinks here too. How ruthless they are to slaughter these kurians and zolgarians as well. They're going to pay for it!" Max said. He almost slipped due to the amount of blood that was covering the floor. But before he could fall, Math grabbed him.
"Be careful now, young blood. The floor is slippery." He said while blowing a cigarette, making Max cough. "My bad, young blood."
"How far are we down yet? Does anyone know?" Conex asked while checking his Radar. But because of the Anti-Energy Arrays and No Zone Arrays active in the place, we couldn't use our Force, and we aren't receiving any signals as well.
"Nope. Still no signal." Rena said after she double checked her Radar and tried to use Force, but to no avail. "Whoever did this is smart. But at the same time, this tells us that they are hiding something here." She added.
"So, do we move forward? It sounds like a trap, sergeant." Rover said while scanning the place.
"It may be a selfish request, but we'll move forward." I said while looking at my squad. Rena smiled and nodded.
"Go for it. We trust your judgement." She said.
We moved deeper in the underground, yet we didn't meet any Fiends on the way. It was quiet. Suspiciously quiet, making us not lower our guard. To make things worse, we couldn't use Night Vision Eyes because we don't have access to Force.
However, thanks to Mors experience, he made a torch from scratch, and we were using it as our light to guide us and let us see what was in front of us.
Alas, fate wasn't kind to us either.
A sudden gust of wind blew the flames out, making our surroundings dark. We heard countless footsteps in our front and at our back, making us flinch and ready to fight in the dark.
"Everyone! Be on guard! From this point, we are fighting in the dark!" I said out loud for everyone to hear amidst these loud footsteps.
The fight broke out. The favor of the battle was at our side thanks to the narrow corridor we were in. Instead of dealing against enemies that might surround us in every direction in the dark, which can cause friendly attack, we were only attacking in two sides with ease.
Since it was dark as well, we couldn't see who was attacking first and who was behind. But we trusted each other even though we couldn't see each other because of the darkness blinding us.
"It's so hard to fight without a freaking Night Vision!" Rena complained as she swung her mace with power behind her attack, blowing the heads of the Fiend that tried to reach for her.
"Rover, is that you, my brother?" Math asked while he was recovering.
"Yeah. Are you okay, uncle?" Rover asked. That was Math's nickname and what we call him because he likes to act old and is older than us.
"I'm good bro. I just need to recover and- MAX BEHIND!"
Max looked behind him and a claw slashed deep at his flesh. The Fiend caught Max's bleeding body, but Conex swung his bastard sword in a downward arc, cutting the Fiend's hands from Max.
"Max! Damn it, the wound is deep!" Mors said while applying aid to Max's wound. "I need cover!" He said and Rover and Math stood in his way to cover him.
Meanwhile, I switched with Rena so she could rest.
"Thanks, Flower." She said amidst pants.
"No problem. Recover your strength, Rena!" I said as I begun to swing my falchion weapon, Light'sDestruction, at the incoming Fiends in front of me.
Light Destruction is built against countless enemies, but because of the Anti-Energy Arrays placed in the area, it became useless. Hence, just an ordinary falchion weapon.
"How many more are in here?" Conex asked while dodging a volley of slashes from the Fiends.
"I don't know, and I don't plan to know. Less talking and more on fighting!" I said as I lunged my blade forward, stabbing the Fiend's heart.
The battle ensued for almost an hour. By the time that the fight was finished, we were all tired and in dire need of rest. But we were in a not so friendly area and chances that we might get attack in both sides again if we are resting is inevitable. So instead, we kept moving forward.
Max wasn't looking great either. He insisted to be left alone, but Math slapped his face because he kept talking about sacrifices and such.
"No way you're dying, bro. Think about your family back home!" He said while he was grabbing Max's collar.
"Enough." I said. "Let's move forward. And Max. I'm not letting you die today, so just shut up and follow us."
