Chapter 22 - An interesting Conversation

I don't see the sun up just yet so it seems I'm up a bit earlier than usual. That weird feeling is gone— Something that I have no way to explain, not at this moment.

But the thing that weighs on my mind now... another death was added to my count. Killing two beings of this world and dying once myself in the process.

It all seems to pile onto my consciousness more, maybe it's because I still haven't gotten used to the idea of killing anyone. Both times I've had no choice but to do so, since I'd be the one dead in the process.

The door opens slightly, her crimson red hair flowing past her shoulders, it was clear that Amelia was the one entering the room. "I saw everything with the fight out there, I didn't know you could do that." Amelia speaks with a bit of a surprised expression across her face.

Honestly I don't think anyone expected me to have that kind of power within me when I first approached the deck. Shimada had suspicions of what I could do but then I confirmed it for him.

Standing up, Artemis has a calm look on his face. "I didn't think I could do any of that either. I'm still learning all about it myself." Artemis responds with a genuine tone in his voice.

Amelia stands there silently for a few moments— Remembering that she was told by someone to help with progressing this power of his. She knew this has to be what the person was talking about since they mentioned something with shadows.

She moves further into the room before taking a seat in one of the chairs. "I want to help you— well I want to help with making you stronger." Amelia says with a bit of kindness in her voice.

I can't say I'm surprised that she's offering to help me with understanding this power or to help me grow with it. Getting stronger will take some time since I need to speak more with this girl.

The girl from the abyss will be the key in becoming stronger, at least that's what I've come to understand. I don't exactly know how Amelia will be able to help just yet, but I do know I'll take all the help I can get.

"I'd appreciate that." Artemis replies.

I could tell that she knew something that I didn't about this power but asking her directly feels like it would be wrong. I'll have to give it some time before I can ask anything big.

Amelia let's out a sigh before looking directly into his eyes. "Something gave me a sign that I need to help you with developing this power more, I don't think it's a bad thing but I didn't want to hide this. I trust you Artemis." Amelia says with a hopeful look in her eyes.

So something is talking to her just like the goddess that talks to me, how interesting this has become. But if she really did trust me, this pact wouldn't still be in effect.

Not that it bothers me entirely— it just keeps me on a leash so that I can't just disappear without Amelia. Protecting her isn't a problem for me or anything, it's just the freedom that I'm missing.

The goddess seemed to express that I wouldn't have such a thing though, especially with the power to return from death. A slave to the world she said to me, what a strong thing to be told.

As if I wasn't a slave from the moment I was born here. The Rose family treated us very well so I can't say it was the worst experience for me.

"Thank you. Have you heard anything about if we are close or not?" Artemis questions with a hint of curiosity in his voice.

I haven't thought much about the destination we were heading to yet since everything is new to me. Learning as I go is probably the most familiar thing, since I had to learn as I worked in my old life.

The tech industry wasn't necessarily easy to work with, especially as a programmer.

She crosses her arms and ponders for a moment. "Not yet, that Shimada really is quite a character though. I don't know how to feel about him." Amelia answers.

"Hopefully we make it there soon, I'm tired of the ocean already." Artemis speaks with a bit of a exhaustion in his voice.

I wasn't much of a sea person to begin with so I kind of expected to feel this way after a bit of traveling. I'm sure it only gets worse as time goes on— at least I get to see what it's like in this world though.

"It'll be here before we know it, just distract yourself or maybe read something." Amelia suggests before pulling out a book.

I did notice that there was a lot of books in this room so it could be a pretty good idea to read for awhile. My knowledge can only grow from the resources at my disposal.

Over the course of the next two weeks Artemis distract himself with the books within his room while Amelia occasionally joins him. Cynthia trains so that her swordsmanship doesn't lose its edge, and Shimada continues to bother them here and there.

Nothing else seems to disrupt the traveling for them as they finally begin to see land in the distance. A beautiful kingdom that borders the ocean is before them.

The continent of Heartfeld's most known kingdom is at the docks, it's also probably the biggest kingdom here. The Kingdom of Avania— A kingdom known for its hospitality, trade, and even it's efforts in the previous war across the continents.

It was a truly magnificent kingdom to see in person, even if they are a bit strict with the rules upon entering.

"Land ho!!!!" The lookout shouts from the top deck.

Finally, I was hoping we were almost there.
