Maria's Point of View:
Days had passed since I last saw Daniel. After he was arrested by the police, I visited him from time to time. Sometimes I didn't even get to see him, but I still went anyway. He was given a few weeks of community service to the city under the custody of the police department.
For me, I spent the last few days in all four corners of the world trying to raise money. Currently, I run five jobs every single day. And about the heels, I put them up for sale on the Internet. Daniel permitted me to do it.
I sat outside the house on a swing chair as I calculated all I had worked for the day. I added it with the ones I worked on previous days, and it looked pretty good. The good thing was that I didn't have to pay for any bills, so the entire money I worked for was still in check.
I was getting somewhere, at least somewhere. I just had a few thousand bucks left to cover, and then I could finally pay off the bills.
I decided to use today to rest my head because Frankie had yelled at me non-stop for my overworking. It came to the extent that he had to call off all the jobs for tomorrow for me to rest.
The house was quite boring, and I thought maybe I should go on a tour of the house. I haven't tried looking through the places in the house I lived in since I moved in. It wasn't that big, but it was enough. I made my way to the different sides of the house that I hadn't been to.
There were a few rooms. I walked into one room, and it was filled with games and gadgets. " Does Daniel play games? " I giggled at the thought of how he would look.
He always had this serious character. Nothing or no one made him smile.
The next room was a workout room. " So this is where he does all the magic to look breathtaking. "
Getting to the other room, I was left star-stroked. Daniel is a painter! I never really thought he would know how to paint. I grew up looking at my mom's paintings. She had a lot of them. Seeing Daniel's paintings brought very happy memories.
As I observed his art, my eyes caught a very familiar woman. I didn't know where I'd seen her before, but I just had this feeling I have.
She was extremely beautiful and charming. I observed the others and there was one piece he hadn't completed. I only saw half of it, so I couldn't identify who it was. Not like he was ever going to paint me.
I saw a few paintings of Daniel and I couldn't help but think about our last encounter. Each time I remember it, I feel so embarrassed or over my head. His touch still felt fresh every day. I reminisced about that day and I smiled.
He was my husband anyway, but almost trying to have me in a car was so absurd. I placed my hands on my chest and bit my lips. "Gosh," I said.
I wanted every touch from him. Was this how ecstasy felt?
I swirled around and closed my eyes. With my hands still on my chest, I gently touched them with the desire to feel his hands on me again. "Why does Daniel make me feel this way?" I said loudly. "What kind of feeling is this?" I said quietly.
I spent some time in the painting room staring at his pictures and then, when I got tired, I decided to watch a movie for the night.
I held a bucket of popcorn and a series played on the screen. I was already fast asleep when I woke up to a call from Frankie. I wiped my eyes with the back of my palm while yawning, and I answered the call sluggishly.
"Hey Frankie, good morning, afternoon, no is it still night ?" I asked.
"Maria, you're still asleep." He asked over the phone.
"Of course, I am, for someone who told me to take a day off you sure are disturbing my little holiday," I replied.
"Oh, I'm super sorry. Let me leave you alone. "I'll tell you when you're fully awake. " Get back to rest," he pleaded.
I yawned again, I didn't even bother to close my mouth. " There was no one in the room anyway. "Frankie! Talk to me. I am already awake, so there is no need. " What is the info?" I asked impatiently.
"It's really not something we'll talk about on the phone because it's going to blow your mind. " And apparently, it's something you have always been wishing for," he said with a squeak.
I am a very impatient person and each time someone wants to tell me something I always feel the urge to know right away. "Come on Frankie, spill the beans," I urged.
Frankie started talking and pausing every two seconds. "I just got you an interview with your dream company, RD company, and hold on to your horses. "Hold on, they are hiring for your dream job, Maria!" He yelled over the phone.
I was so amazed, my eyes widened, and I placed my hands on my mouth. "Shut up Frankie! It's a lie you're pulling my legs."
"It's reality, Maria. I'm as surprised as you are. To get an interview with the biggest company in the country is hard and me getting it for you without any connection is God's grace. " I was just as surprised as you are," he explained.
"Oh my God! " Oh my God," I repeated.
" And you're overqualified for the job coupled with the experience you have working with your father's company. I am a thousand percent sure you are going to get the job, " he assured me.
"Can you meet me at our usual restaurant by ten? " We have got to celebrate," he said, and I just couldn't say no, even though my husband is currently locked away.
"Yes, I will. By ten o'clock. "See you." I agreed and Frankie hung up the phone.
I spent the next five minutes jumping and dancing like a kid. I couldn't believe it. I have an interview with the RD company. Ever since that company surprisingly rose in the country and became the number one best, my dream was to be a part of it.
They did a lot of work for society and the people. I couldn't be more into them. I quickly went to the bathroom and took my shower. After I was done, my eyes caught Daniel's spicy mint lotion. I gently rubbed them on my body.
After showering, I did my daily routine and had my breakfast that I had accompanied Sarah to cook. A few minutes later I was ready to leave.
I got to the restaurant and met Frankie at the entrance. He had a very big smile. "Hey," he said.
"Hey," I replied.
"I just found out now that the restaurant is out of chips, your favorite. " How about we head to that chip shop just a block away and get it before we head back to the restaurant?" he asked.
"Sure! " Anything for the chips." I chuckled.
We walked and started talking along the way. Until we started talking about Daniel. "How is he doing?" Frankie asked.
"He's good," I replied.
"What happened that day? "I know you explained everything to me, but I didn't get it. " What were you both doing that you didn't see when someone was trying to attack?" he asked innocently.
My cheeks flushed red. " How would I tell him that we were doing things in the car? That was why?
I cleared my throat and sighed sharply. "We were arguing. " You know Daniel is very stubborn." I lied.
Frankie looked at me for a while. "Why are you blushing?" he asked.
I was startled. "Me? Blush. No, why should I? Like what's there to blush about? " Maybe it's the weather." I covered up.
"Okay. I still can't get over everything. Daniel got you a shoe worth ten thousand dollars. Aren't you suspicious? How did he get the money? Yes, I know his family is wealthy, but you know he is a black sheep and outranked. " He doesn't even get that much in the family shares," Frankie said, and I immediately got offended. It felt as if he was talking about me, but I discarded the thought of it.
"I don't know Frankie," I added.
After we got the chips, we headed back to the restaurant and who I saw inside wasn't who I was expecting to ever see this fine morning. Diana was there with her minions. What the hell was she doing here? I thought.
When things were just starting to brighten up for me, I came across absolute darkness. I acted like I didn't see her and ignored her completely as I walked right past her.
"Hmmm, Maria!" She called.
"What the heck!" I cursed quietly.
"Big sis, don't act like you didn't see me. " Are we still chasing clout?" she asked.
I rolled my eyes in disgust and continued walking. Diana ran towards me and blocked my way. "I'm talking to you Maria!" She retorted.
I didn't say a word as I looked her in the eye. She came closer to me and whispered, "You plan to humiliate me here, right? That's not going to work Maria. I will do that to you before you even try to."
"Diana, let me be. " I don't have time for your little games," I said gently.
Diana laughed a bit. "I know you won't. I heard your man was rotting in the police cell serving some punishment. " And what are you doing here?" Diana asked as her eyes went to Frankie. "You are out here having a little date with another man," She added and spat on the floor.
Frankie walked closer to her. "You know me, Diana, don't act like you don't know. " Maria and I had been best friends even before they ever thought of putting you in the womb," Frankie replied.
"And so what, Frankie? Or whatever they call your name, no one put your low life of a mouth here. " I wasn't speaking to you." She fired at Frankie.
She rolled her eyes, looked at me, and asked, "How's your mom? Is she dead yet?"
I didn't know where I got the strength from. I raised my hands and gave Diana a very dirty slap that made her roll over the floor. "Don't you ever!"
