Chapter 12 - Was she an angel

We appeared in the center of the forest, the forest called forgotten hill Forest. The tall trees covered the forest, making it dark and eerie. We stood apart from each other in a large space.

Matt's eyes widened, seeing the sudden change.

"Remember, you will fight until you kill me, that way, the power I gave you will be yours forever," I said, reminding him of the deal which he readily accepted. "But the thing is, I don't want to die. I will fight until I kill you to save myself," I pointed out and opened my palm, releasing an iced arrow.

It was the combination of two abilities I had gotten from the souls I absorbed. My fight with Matt won't be an easy one because I haven't mastered the abilities now. I have being busy with the CSS agents that I had no time to practice.

I directed the arrow at him and released it, but he quickly moved away, making it hit the tree behind him. He moved away with the speed of light and appeared behind me, with an aim to struck me with his blazing arrow. I dodged his hit at the last moment and fell on the floor. That was a miss.

He turned around with his eyes raging with hunger to kill me. He redirected his arrow at me but I rolled away, missing his hit again.

He screamed in anger and got surrounded by his burning arrows. The arrows around him began to swirl, coming together until they merged into a single sword.

"I must kill you!" He roared and got a hold of the blazing sword. "I must kill you!" he repeated and charged towards me.

Damn, did I make a mistake by telling him to fight me after giving him such enormous power? I started regretting it.

I stood up and took to my heels, trying to escape his rage but he was right behind me, running faster.

"Maki, I need you now," I called for help, but he replied, "You made it your fight. You have to fight alone, master."

Great, just when I need him. Anyway, he was right. It was my fight and I have to fight it alone. I have to survive no matter what and for that, I would stop being a coward. Besides, I have the upper hand. I have so many abilities inside me. I can- my thought was put to an end when I felt his hand wrap around my neck and in the next second, I was flying across the forest, like a piece of an unwanted cloth flung away.

I hit a tree with a loud thud and fell on the floor weakly. My body hurt so badly.

Before I could get up, he appeared beside me again and grabbed my cloth. Without a care, he threw me across the forest again, and this time, the tree I hit fell, causing a quake.

I lifted my eyes and saw him moving towards me with the speed of light. It was too late to try to escape or get ready to attack, as he gripped my hair and took a long jump, holding me firmly.

He landed at the top of the hill beside the mountain, and pinned me to the ground. "It is over," he said. "This power is mine now!"

He lifted his blazing sword which had intensified and directed it towards my chest. Just a few inches away, I forcefully wrapped my hand around the blazing edge and pushed it away, but his grip was powerful than mine, so I could only push it away by just a few inches.

My hands were burning and the pain was excruciating. It hurt so bad. I took a deep breath and searched deep within me, hoping to find the ice ability and use it before he kills me. I had no idea how to use the abilities, and that iced arrow was just luck.

I shut my eyes, and tried to let out the ice within. Suddenly, I felt chills running through my vein and my hand became cold, cooling the burnt I had obtained. I breathed in relief and opened my eyes. The first thing I saw was his dazed look while looking at his sword. I averted my gaze to the sword and saw it iced. It wasn't blazing anymore.

I used that opportunity to kick him hard at his groin and he fell back, groaning in pain. I stood up and kicked his face hard.

"Like I said, I will do anything to survive too," I reminded and stretched my hand.

I put in all my energy, just as I did to form the ice, on my palm and it created a large ball of fire. Before, I couldn't create a fireball the size of an egg, but things have changed. And surprisingly, I don't need to chant to command it. I looked at the groaning man, who was at the same time, trying to go away from me. "This is for the young girl and her mother!" I yelled out and blasted his face with the fireball. He died instantly with his face burnt beyond recognition.

I sighed in satisfaction and sat back, tying to catch a breath. At some point, I really thought he would kill me. I stretched my hands towards him and his soul came out and got absorbed into me.

I shut my eyes, relishing in the powerful energy surging into me. It was satisfying, especially when it came from the one who I promised to punish. The feeling I got was out of the world and I found myself craving more that instant, but it would be disastrous if I allow myself get controlled by my hunger. I might go on a rampage for more souls, which wasn't the best thing to do. I let out a deep breath and opened my eyes, putting an end to the satisfying feeling.

"I see you are becoming good at using the stolen energies," a voice said, and I quickly looked beside me.

A beautiful woman was leaning against a tree with her arms folded against her chest and a pretty smile playing across her lips. She was tall, 6'2ft if I guess correctly. I have never seen a lady as tall as that: well, I was locked up almost all my life. She was beautifully endowed, curvy, slender. Her thick black hair was long, reaching her hips.

I immediately got captivated and I lost all senses of what was happening around me. I couldn't take my eyes off her. Her smile widened and it felt as if a bright light surrounded me, a warm bright light.

Was she an angel? If she was and was there to take my soul away, for that few minutes, I was ready to give up my soul. I was ready to go with her.

"You are not bad looking," she complimented and in the next second, she was standing right before me with her fingers wrapping around my chin. "I am Eight, the twelfth power ranked ghoul," she introduced and my senses sparked back, bringing me to reality.

Eight? The twelfth ranked ghoul who I need to defeat?

"I heard you are the new king," she said, still smiling brightly at me. She leaned closer, so close that I could feel her warm breath on my neck. "Don't worry, I am here to escort the new king to his grave," she muttered and the sharp edge of a sword being forced into my body, sounded in my ears. In the next second, the smell of blood wafted the air.

She pushed me to the floor with her sword still stuck to my chest. "It was so easy to end the life of the suppose king," she mocked and laughed. After a few seconds, she whispered, "Goodbye." And walked away.

The world went silent, too silent. Was this the end? This time, I don't think I will survive. This is truly the end!
